A crime scene is a location where an illegal act took place, and comprises the area from which most of the physical evidence is retrieved by trained law enforcement personnel, CSIs or in rare circumstances forensic scientists. A crime scene is a location wherein evidence of a crime may be located. It is not necessarily the location the crime took place. Indeed, there are primary, secondary and often tertiary crime scenes. For instance, the police may use a warrant to search an offender's home. Even though the offender did not commit the crime at that location evidence of the crime may be found there. In another instance, an offender might kidnap at one location (primary crime scene), transport the victim (the car is a second crime scene), commit another crime at a distant location (murder, for instance) and then drop the body at a fourth scene.

All locations wherein there is the potential for the recovery of evidence must be handled in the same manner. Legal concepts impacting the usefulness of evidence in court (Daubert, chain of custody, etc), apply to the recovery of evidence whether or not a crime actually occurred at that location.

Crime scene reconstruction is the use of scientific methods, physical evidence, deductive reasoning, and their interrelationships to gain explicit knowledge of the series of events that surround the commission of a crime.

I don't know if I'll be in this challenge or not... I'm getting married on saturday and I'm then off to hawaii for a week. There won't be a computer handy... I then would call a friend and give them my login info and say "See that little button that says update? Push it.... What does it say? Really.... push it again... Now what does it say? hmmm okay try it again..."

That kind of photography isnt all that fun.... its very regimented and sometimes must be exact. Sometimes you have to solve lighting problems though :)

Did this in a challenge a couple of years ago.

The dead "model" was just some of my clothes stuffed with newspaper.
I just realized I never explained that.

Disclaimer: I got no usable photos from the following story.

Driving to work today and I see traffic is backed up at one intersection. I look over and see 2-3 police cars blocking a road and behind them a large SWAT van and around 7 or 8 SWAT officers in full gear (bullet proof vests, helmets, rifles) walking down the street. Like a bolt of lightening, I think crime scene (or at least a shoehorn of an arrest scene). I quickly cut accross several lanes of traffic and park about a half a block away. Grabbing my trusty camera I quickly walk to the scene only to see the SWAT truck driving away and the police officers opening up the street to traffic. If I'd only left for work about 5-10 minutes earlier what I photo I might have had. Now back to my staged and probably lame crime scene ideas.
