so yea i was searching around, and i found a japaneese website displaying a Canon 10-500mm f/2.8L IS USM, featureing a 12 inch front element and a price tag worthy of a car to boot, link

did you guys see the video of it? scrol to the bottome theres a link to some dude ho made a harness so h cold use it without a tripod

Sure its big and I would never want to let it go... but I don't see the red ring on it so I don't think its L series.

Hmm, maybe it is badly translated but what does "*Fuller range not offered at all times when handling Canon USM feature." mean?

Is that saying if you have USM on you cannot zoom the full range?

Only if the 3rd mode of IS is also engaged, with IS mode 1 and 2 you'll get the whole range.

Cool, its got 3 mode IS.. I never saw that! If I had one of those I would never give it up!

well, the hand held part is still in question, however the lowlight is fine

The distortion at 10mm has to be pretty severe/ Anyone know if this will work on the 5D, or is it only for the cropped sensor cameras?

it works with both full frame and cropped sensors, they have adistortion adjustment filter that drops into the back when you want to be wide, and you just turn the dial and it slides away untill you need it

You are incorrect, that is for the chromatic aberration filter. It has nothing to do with the format. It looks like it is the same filter the D300 uses to clear up flare but it can ruin night shots, which is why it is optional. As for the format there is an adapter that makes it support both, however full-frame is two stops slower, so not really up to the hype.
