Hello everyone!
Even if I am only an amateur, sooner or later I'd like to buy Photoshop (yes, buy it, not download a pirate copy).
I always thought it was too expensive and that I should have to wait until my salary increased or the price decreased, but today I found on the Adobe websites that they sell it on the US site for 649$ and on the Italian site for 1697$ (same price in the shops). Even if I had to pay customs and taxes on the US price, the saving would be impressive.
Do you think there might be any legal issues if a non-US resident bought a dowloadable copy of PS3 on the Adobe US site?
I hope it is legal to do so, and that they keep such different prices because only 2% of Italians buy online...

You can give it a try but I suspect not. I tried to buy the US version as I'm a US citizen stationed in Germany with the US government and ended up buying a disk version online and having it shipped to my mom's house, then having her ship it to me. Pain in the butt. But lo and behold, when I bought Lightroom, I had no problem at all. So try it and see what happens!

When you try to buy Photoshop online at the Adobe store, if you use the US site, it only allows you to ship to the US, Canada, or Mexico. So as Melethia says, you need to know someone in one of those countries to ship it on to you.
In the UK the Adobe store sells it at £570 which is about $1100+

It seems impossible to buy on line from the Adobe US site, even if you give an US address (an hotel...) and use a .com mail (google...), they are detecting your european credit card.

BUT there's another way: you buy it on line at an authorized dealer, the mine comes from B&H in New York, they send it by DHL within 3 days, you have to pay the VAT to DHL...tax included, still 50% of the European price, and completely legal.

(By the way, I can't understand the attitude of Adobe - a downloadable software should obviously cost the same price everywhere, this is really to encourage the European using pirate copies)

A friend tried explaining this to me once. From what I gather the EU trading laws supposed to protect fair trading inside the EU basically allow the whole of Europe to be treated as a separate market place by the rest of the world. Therefore they can charge higher prices in the EU without any real justification. Basically adobe are well within their rights to rip off us Europeans, even though its a downloadable product and there are obviously no increased costs for selling here (plus they can always blame it on marketing).

On the other hand they are barely gonna come kick your door in if you ship to a US address then to yourself, so go for it. I cant see them complaining to much as you've made the effort to pay where as 95% of users don't bother.

WTF? You got any data to back that up? 95% of Photoshop users have not paid for it?

well 95% is a very exaggerated percentage, But I too believe that the majority of users using Photoshop are using illegal copies. Its makes sense if you think about it.

Not to rub salt in the wounds, but I'm the proud new owner of Adobe CS3 Master Collection for Windows for $520 + 7.75% tax (price just got raised to that). I got it through being a student, taking Photoshop classes for free. Now to find the time to learn everything I just got! That will take some time.

Btw, I think you mean CS3. PS3 is the usual acronym for PlayStation 3. Which is also a lot of fun. :-)
