So, I with the stimulus thingy, I picked up a Wacom Intuos3 tablet and discovered a nice discount on PS CS3, which was next on my list anyway. I have to say that the CS3 Raw Converter is well worth the price alone, it is about a bazillion times superior to the Canon "Pro" RAW Converter and a few of the trial versions I have used from other providers.
The RAW of this image was a little flat and the glass piece on the left side of the frame was totally blown out.
Now, I just need to learn how to work the curves and a good number of other nifty things that PS CS3 can do...

Get this book. Scott Kelby's 7-Point System For Adobe Photoshop CS3. You'll learn a lot of valuable techniques.

I will definitely consider it, after going through the video lessons provided on the DVD that came along with the boxed version of CS3. |

I have to second that one, its a pretty good book. He has another one on PS CS3 also which is pretty sweet also, the writing is a little on the corney side but it keeps its interesting, rather than just blah blah blah plain heres how you do this technique...

Here's another one. I tweaked this one after viewing a few of the videos that came on the tutorial DVD in regards to using the Camera RAW Converter. The RAW Converter can also be used to do some overall tweaking to JPG or TIFF files as well. I have feeling that I will really need to put more study into its effects though, a few images that I played with came out looking very "digital" after touching the slider for Blacks in the picture.
