We're going to Medieval Times with the kidlets this weekend. The last time I was there was before I had an SLR camera and I'm wondering if they allow them, and if so, if there are lens size limits.

I wrote them an email inquiring, but who knows if & when it will be answered.

Anybody here have any experiences with Medieval Times and their dSLR / large or small lens?

Thanks!

I'm probably more concerned abut greasing up my gear, as it's a cutlery-free environment, hehe. Must bring wet-wipes.

Hehehe -- Dolly's Stampede show is the same way. No cutlery. I thought of standing outside selling a fork, spoon, knife, napkin combo for $1 and getting rich. :)

This reminds me of the Movie "Cable Guy" when Matthew Broderick said that they are in medieval times, but they serve coke. lol

Slippy, See if you can find a period looking leather bag, like a saddle bag to carry your camera in when you are not shooting, and you will most likely not be too badly beat up about having the camera there. I would guess that they encourage having good photos made, to publicize the event. The only hang up may be if they have a hired event photographer, but even then, I wouldn't know if you will be restricted from shooting for your own pleasure.
You have never had bigger fun than when a squirrel runs up inside someone's chain mail suit : )
If you can't get an answer from them, try looking up the event on Oogle or Ahoo to see if there are a batch of amateur images posted, and look at those for DSLR's in the background.

I had to use my lens shade for a spoon there. They fussed a bit about me shooting pix, but not much. It was dark and I was not using flash.

Hi John,

Yes, you may bring the camera into the arena, it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks,
Medieval Times

I was in the one in Florida a couple of years ago and I took my camera and had no problem what-so-ever.

I went to one a few years back...didn't stay long as my 4 year old was freaking out and would not go in, no way no how. Later that night we found out why - the place is done up like a castle, and he tells us "Scooby doo says castles have ghosts!". Lovely waste of a big chunk of change, plus it was a family birthday 'party' and we missed it all.

Anyway, of the few minutes I spent in there it was DARK. So you best know your camera controls blindfolded. And even though the 'stage' is lit, it still seemed dark to me, and out seats were a good distance away making a tele mandatory, and a fast IS version would probably be the only way to go.

I don't think anyone would even know you had a camera - it's REALLY dark in there. I had to eat by feel and and identify the food by smell, and I don't recall having any silverware...so that might leave you with a sticky camera!
