who is 5 foot 1 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds. In the nude, in a studio setting.

For once in my life, I am speechless and have no ideas as to what or how to pose or shoot him.

Can anyone think of anything at all??

edited to add, that I am not speechless, I keep muttering 'why me'

and I am also pretty sure that these shots are not for his wife and I know them both.

Did he give you any ideas WHY he wants the pictures?

We had a body model that sounds very similiar want to pose to rebuild his portfolio. In that case, he already knew what poses he wanted.... (I don't think he was 70 though... 50ish) Gave me the creeps.

You seem to be uncomfortable with the situation. Can't you say 'no'?

Is there a rule that states that all photographic subjects must all be examples of Hollywood-style air-brushed 'perfection'?

Juliet, why not utilise your lightpainting technique? It seems to me that this could be used to good effect in this case.

Totally agree! and will go on to say as long as they are tastefull and not porn then you'll most likely get some very strong images (B&W of course). However, as Larry mentioned, if you are uncomfortable you should say no but if you can treat this as an artistic shoot then think you should go for it Juliet.

I think you're very fortunate to have such an opportunity. I, really, can't think of a better way to portrait life. Here are two DPC portraits of elderly people I respect:

Just tell the truth.

How much will it pay, if it's worth the money, why not. Remember, if you refuse you may get sued for not photographing his beautiful nekkid body. I would love to get jobs like this, that's where my brain jumps out of the box and gets creative. Unusual subjects make it all worth it.

she may not.
he may pose naturally.

if it's a character portrait, she may
want to discover who he is before deciding

anything at all...

I see you live in Arizona...how about some outdoor shots. Make him blend into the beautiful environment.

I have no idea of how I would handle that... then again, I have no idea how I would handle even a very pretty girl wanting the same pictures...

A lot depends on what he wants the pictures for. If it is for a girlfriend and not his wife, I would tell him you want no part of it (the bastard!) If it is for his wife just to show that no matter the age, he is all hers... then maybe tie in some throw back props from when they were younger. Ask if he has antyhing he would like in the shot which will bring back memories such as an old baseball cap, or jersey. Something from a war if he was in one and is a vet, somethign his wife gave him, etc.

That's the way I guess I would head with it... odd request though for the nude component.

thank you so far ,

he is , or was a nudist and I think wants to recapture his youth.

I just can not seem to think of flattering poses for him though. I can and probably will do the light painting as it will cover a multitude of sins.

but how do you pose a man that is as round as he is tall?

I am truely stuck here

You're too hung-up on the nude aspect. Imagine them nude. I think they'd be great.

Just spend some time. Keep the cam ready, and talk (or move furniture or smoke or anything that comes easy and natural) until you're more absorbed by who he is than by the clothes he's not wearing. Think of it as a portrait.

Since he is a nudist, or was, let him do the posing then and all you have to do is capture the moment. If he was not comfortable being nude, then the photographer would be more responsible for putting him at ease for the pictures. In this regard, he is the one who needs to put you at ease, so he should do the posing and tell you what he wants.

He's just another person, a man who's lived a little longer than you or I. The fact that he's a nudist doesn't change that at all. Being a nudist has nothing to do with sex or erotica. It's one idea of freedom, that's all.

Juliet, I sent an email to an elderly photographer friend of mine that has taken some nude self portraits...and he has managed to post some very tasteful shots. Most of them, disguising some of the things that time does to shift the sands a bit. I'll get you his response asap...when is this scheduled for?

And "round as a ball." Tumbling, tumbling tumbleweed.
