im workin on a challenge and want to know if this is allowed in a basic challenge

i refer to this rule:

you MAY :saturate, desaturate or change the colors of your entry, but no selections are allowed.

so i ask, am i able to ad a layer fill with a color (over the entire image, and make it an overlay?

Any help would be great.

thanks in advance

Only adjustment layers are allowed in basic, and those only used in normal mode.

You can do this in Advanced editing, but not in Basic.

You might be able to achieve a similar effect to what I think you want by using an Adjustment Layer (e.g. Curves) and adjusting the color channels individually, or by using Duotone mode with the appropriate color combination.

You can also use Hue/Saturation with the Colorize box checked and then lower the opacity.
