We are going to a outdoor go kart track with a bunch of friends in the weekend and I would need some advice.
Could anyone give some clues about what shutter speeds might be suitable for heads on shots or panning shots of the cars? |

I've posted a couple shots of go-carts for a couple different challenges. I've found that 1/30 to 1/60 gives pretty good panning shots with plenty of movement at various focal lengths. The challenge is keeping up with the cars as they pass by -- the key is to try to keep the focal point in-front of the car, and you might just get it in the center of the frame (rather than pointing at the car; you'll always be behind).

You're shooting digital... shots are free, feel free to experiment. :-)
At my work, we had a "team building event" last year at a local go kart track. You're welcome to browse my collection of images. The EXIF data is intact. Just hover over the big image on the right, then click the [i] icon to view the EXIF data.
