Hi all,

Below is a list of the lenses me and my wife currently have. We are looking to be all around photographers, so action shots, portraits/weddings, nature, artisitic, etc are all areas of interest.

What would suggestions for future lenses to fill in our gaps be, and please add the reason it would fit in with out current lenes, or replace one, so we can gauge the priority.

Our current lenses are:

Sigma 70-200 2.8
Canon EFS 17-85mm
Canon EFS 75-300mm
Canon 50mm
Canon EFS 18-55mm
Canon EFS 10-22mm

Any recommendations are welcome, regardless of price. Of course, the low-mid level price ranges are more appreciated at the moment until we can justify the $1,500 and up lenses.

Thanks for any recommendations!!!

Dave

fill the gap? you have from 10mm to 300mm covered.

i'd say your good until you're unable to get the shot you want with what you have

sell your extra 18-55 since you have one that covers the 17-85 range. Then maybe save your pennies and get an L class. You have great coverage of focal length your next step is better quality glass.

The only thing left is maybe a dedicated macro, or specialty lenses (tilt-shift, lens baby)

Sounds great... The 17-85 is coming with the camera I bought, so wasn't sure how good it is. (heard good things) I wasn't sure if any of these lenses are not great and should be replaced by "X" lens.

my honest opinion would be to sell your two 18-85 and 17-55 lenses and get the L class lense that canon makes that covers 28 through 100 something

I'm assuming that the 50mm is a fast lens (f/1.4 or similar), so you've already got "low light" covered?

If that's the case, then the main other things you could get are:
- A macro lens - preferably Canon, Sigma or Tamron f/2.8 macro lenses (100, 105 or 90mm).
- A longer lens (400mm or longer).
- Prime lenses within the focal length ranges you already have (e.g. 24mm, 35mm, 100mm, 300mm approx f/4)

Whether you really need any of these to complement your existing lenses is another question altogether. If you want to spend some $$ then you could always look at lighting (flash or tungsten), tripod/monopod, another bag, portable storage options or donating the money to me. :D
