I'm thinking of ordering one and am wondering if anyone else at DPC has one.

My brother has a rowing machine by Concept2, which my wife & I tried out while we were visiting for a week. I was on it every other day, and my wife was on it every day.

It has a lot of features, including the ability to monitor heart rate, force, stroke rate, speed, and put it all into an electronic log, which is something that would keep me excited to keep at a program. If you saw my man-breasts, you'd agree, I need a program.

Their website lets people upload results, and gives rankings and all that jazz. My brother says if I got one, we could even plug both rowers into the web and race, real-time.

I used to row for real, and we used ergs that looked pretty similar. They're decent.

I cannot help but view them as an instrument of early morning torture though.

Most in home exercise equipment becomes a clothes tree before long.

Ha! I got a treadmill that is the most expensive clothes hanger I own.

The wife and I just signed up for Anytime Fitness today. $54/month for the both of us and she has tanning included for her.

With some tunes I find a good workout relaxing and enjoyable. Being able to track lots of stats would be another layer of enjoyment, especially to see heart rate come down for an amount of work. I used to always go to the gym, but don't have the travel time anymore. Plus I hate people, they are just a bunch of annoying stupidasses. ;-)

Anyway, just wondering if anybody else here uses one of these machines.

My wife also has been going to a fitness place for years. She does a variety of instructor-lead programs, as well as equipment-based stuff. But she has time during the day while I'm at work and the kidlets are at school. She is totally hot!

I'm more interested in getting my heart rate up, keeping it up, and burning calories. I fealt it really worked a wide range of my muscles also, while trying out my brother's. My wife loved it. I've seen the bowflex on tv, it looks more like a body building dooflicky.

Ever thought about a pair of running shoes ? Cheaper and the scenery keeps changing ?
Suppose given the location you might have to strap on some crampons at different times of the year.

I have some screws holding my right knee together from a torn ACL. I used to run until the skiing accident, now I just do zero-impact stuff, like hockey and rollerblading. But both weather and time are major considerations, for sure. :-( Rollerblading is definitely dry weather only. I tried it on a wet road once and had enough momentum that I slid about 50 feet before slamming into the curb. I had on jeans and a jean jacket, but still got some pretty nasty road rash, LOL, I was pretty messed up! But I'm too old for those shenanigans any more. I hope this rowing machine comes with a drink caddy for my beer! ;-D

Hello. We purchased a Concept2 last February and would highly recommend it. Hope this helps.

I'll second this opinion. It is a great machine, and stores pretty compactly. Mechanically, it's a tank, really commercial quality. It's a tremendous workout.
It does take quite a bit of room to use, and being that the friction is provided by air movement, it is a little noisy, but not bad. Highly recommended.

ETA: I've had my Concept2 for about 3 years, and it was not new when I bought it.

Haha! Zero impact on my knee. People still get knocked around a bit. But I haven't played in a while anyway, just too time consuming.

Hey, cool! Do you save your workout logs?

You'd think that would be a logical thing to do, given the techie nature of y personality, but nooooooo. I guess I really don't want to know how negative the impact of my haphazard schedule is on my results :-p

I'm really enjoying rowing for 30 minutes before going to work, even enough to offset the argghh-factor of having to get up half an hour earlier than usual. I'm already feeling more energy throughout the day. Still working on proper form, and there's a long way to go. It's humbling to see my rows all rank in the bottom 10th percentile as compared to everyone elses.

I've rowed ~33km so far, and I'm thinking of virtually rowing to places on the map for fun. Who should I visit first?

On my way! The circumference of the earth is about 40,000,000m, and I'm hoping to join the 1,000,000m club before the year is over...

A few pounds are also gone. :-))

I used to row, and all we used were Concept 2's. Nice Machines. Ergs, in my opinon, are the best full body workout and you don't have to be on there long to feel the burn. If you do buy one, make sure you learn to use it right because I always see people at the gym using them wrong and I can tell they are not getting the full exercise they could be getting on it, not to mention it looks terribly uncomfortable and awkward (but I'm assuming your brother taught you the right way to use it).
