I put some of my 'on the road' rejects up on my web site.
On the Road Rejects

I almost entered the first one of the dashboard, but I see that someone else did that, I really liked the second one of the arrow, but it is
probably too abstract to do well here. The Fire Zone one I like but
I just don't think it works with some of the grass in the shot. Anyway, any comments on these would be great - and they don't give any
indication to the submission I actually made this week.

I really like those. The very last one - the diagonal stripes - doesn't really hit me, but the rest are good stuff. I had a great idea and actually had worked out how to implement it when it started pouring rain. Didn't stop till later sunday night, so I adapted it to flash, but I couldn't get the look I was after. Two examples are here.

Gordon, I particularly like reject #4 in your gallery... Maybe it's just me but I like things that are skewed in some way or another... This shot would have scored nicely in my votes :)

i really like rejects II and IV...especially IV, i like the offset of the stripes, the entire graphic of it is very appealing to me ...plus, i'm a sucker for stars ;o)

#4 woulda been a big scorer for me. I really like the skewed stripes on the manhole cover. Not to mention the visual interest in the manhole cover itself.

This was just the kind of shot I was struggling all week to come up with, but failed miserably. And it's on of your rejects! How frustrating! ;)

I'll post some out-takes tonight when I get home from work. I'll also post a shot I got this morning driving to work - that would've probably been my entry if I had gotten it last week. Sooo frustrating!

Looks like it could have been good - was the bike moving ? Where was
the camera strapped to ? Interesting attempts...

Gordon..tell your wife I admire her greatly.. When I was in college I was a bicyler/runner. I wanted to do triathalons so bad but I swim like a rock!!! You need get some more shots of her competing and really work that angle..it's very interesting.

I admire her greatly too :) Doing
triathlon's are fun - the swimming comes with a
bit of coaching/ training - I recommend trying it if
you can!

It's an amazing feeling when you finish something like that
even when it's 'only' a sprint distance.

I want some more interesting running
shots though, from lower angles and things - I liked
some of the more set up/ toned ones that I'd taken
and wanted a couple of running ones like this

OK, this is a horrible photograph, but there is some offbeat humor to it. The photo is not manipulated in any way. This sign actually exists and used to be the exit nearest to my house. I only wish I could have taken a good shot of it for the challenge. Detroit traffic doesn''t allow you to just stop on the highways, so the picture was taken through the windshield into the sun, giving it really bad quality. Hope nobody is offended and if the moderators remove it just email me and I''ll send you a link.

Here are my outtakes
for this challenge. Thought I´d submit them to show the sceptics that the Icelandic sunset and weather conditions can be rather blended. Sometimes we have rain, snow, sun, wind and stuff taking turnis in making us crazy.
So having a nice sunset in your review mirror on a rainy day is totaly normal and not a photoshop stunt ;)

Here were my first two choices for On The Road, but (without giving away my entry) I decided to go with something more "arty" this time instead of my more usual "humorous" interpretation...

First Alternate

Second Alternate

Thanks -- it's part of a collection I took that day I plan to send to the Mayor...

I always enjoy looking at people's outtakes.

here are some of mine, of lesser and greater quality. I might have preferred to go with one or 2 of them instead of my final selection.

For instance, I really like the lighting on the first one. And the subject matter of a couple of the others. Some I know are very snapshotty - still, probably amusing to check out! : )

road worthy?

I think I like zoom girl and the trashy neighborhood (that's two pictures, folks) the best, although I didn't have time to "rate" them carefully...

Damn, makes me wish I would of tooken a picture of the street sign downtown where church and state street intersect. But, I've already did that for a project with 35mm

I forget which town it is that has an intersection of Nixon and Bluitt; also the intersection of Amherst and N Thurlow Streets in Margate, NJ has a One Way sign pointing into a street marked "No Outlet."

I'm working on a web page of sign oddities... when I finish it I'll post the link.

I saw one in San Francisco outside my hotel that pointed upwards and said 'sky'
