I understand that the wildflowers are pretty amazing this year due to the rains in the first couple of months this year. I would love to have a GTG at Picacho Peak. On March 9th there's a Civil War reenactment at a different part of the park that might be interesting as well.

Anyone?

I just went up there this weekend, I think by the time the 9th pops around they might be more flowers, but more on the 15th to be honest, there are not alot of parking spots and there is a $6 entry fee. GOod idea to pack your hiking shoes if you want good spots to shoot.

But count me in, I will be there, got some nice shots this weekend, but nothing spectacular. The purple lupins will be out in a week or so, so should be a good show.

Duh, edited, cos of the civil war thing, that wont be around on the 15th, so better on the 9th,

There is no way I can hike for a long ways, maybe there is a better place to go. Lost Dutchman and Goldfield perhaps?

phhhhhhhhhhfffffffffffffff

can not get the image thingy to work.

anyways,in my profile you will see two photos from this weekend.

It epends on howmuch hiking you want to do, you can take shots from the road side, or just walk a few hundred yards, or hike up to the top.

not bad at all and the reinacment sounds like fun!

According to this, there are wildflowers all over the state. Just a matter of choosing a location I guess.

The reenactment is worthy of a GTG by itself. The battles are cool, but all the stuff going on in camp make for great photo ops as well.

other then lost dutchmen, one of my favorite wildflower shooting spots was the picket post area. At the picket post trailhead follow the Arizona Trail and you'll get some great floral views. You don't have to go too far from the parking lot. And the Arboretum is about a mile down the road. Their demonstration garden should be amazing!

could be daring and do one weekend and the other the other weekend.

Did that make sense??

That is not a bad idea at all. The re-enactment is March 8 - 9. Lets see if there is any other interest and choose our days and places ;-)

FWIW, although hiking is an option at Picacho, it's not necessary to walk a long way. In 2005, a great year for wildflowers in AZ, I went there with Steve Davidson & lightpath and we did not do any heavy-duty hiking, still got some great shots.

The linked shots are from both Picacho & Saguaro Nat'l Park

The shots I got where about 50 yards from the road.

I would love to do the war one, as I have never been, and of course the flowers are going to be great in some places,

Up to you sweets

I vote for March 9th then. The Civil War is my main focus, the wildflowers are just a bonus.

Then sign me up!!!!!!!

What time???

In fact it might be easier when we get there, to all pile into one car, that way we only have to pay $6 aned we only have to find one parking space.

just something to think on

Parking and riding together is a great idea. Any other side ops are good too. Keep them coming.

As to time, it will probably take me an hour and a half to get there. 8:30 ish or 9 works for me.
