A friend of mine is working on this project and after playing around with it, it really is incredible.

Pic Lens

It is a plugin for firefox, internet explorer, and safari.

Maybe not entirely revolutionary, but it is definitely a very convenient, cool, and innovative way to browse photos on smugmug, flickr, google images, facebook, and more.

"PicLens instantly transforms your browser into a full-screen, 3D experience for viewing images on the web. Photos will come to life via a cinematic presentation that goes well beyond the confines of the traditional browser window. With PicLens, browsing and viewing images on the web will never be the same again."

If this was somehow made compatible with dpchallenge, i think viewing photos on this site (especially huge galleries) could be substantially improved.

Yes, it would be very nice if it was compatible with DPC. Nice little add-on. Thanks for sharing.

Couple of other threads about it already.

I was just going to start a thread on this, but searched the forum first and found this one. It's pretty amazing what I've seen so far, although it's functionality is pretty basic. I sometimes like to have different options or filters if I'm searching for images, which I haven't seen in it (yet).

The Cool Iris Previews is a nice add on too.

Just enter "Copyrighted_Image_Reuse_Prohibited" on most of the sites and you'll see a BUNCH of DPC photos. :-/

Nice quick way to scan for "stolen" photos. (But let's not turn this into a stolen photos thread)

For giggles I installed this on a gallery that I made that contains well over 5000 images
I am afraid that it is a little slow as well as a bit too gimmicky for a gallery that big.
I may integrate it on a smaller gallery at some point though

here is the link if anyone is interested ... but be forewarned. It is ALL bellydance show stuff

ETA: This whole thing is hosted on my server locally

I've been enjoying it for a couple of weeks now.

Image searches on Google are soooo much better. Instead of clicking next, next, just scroll. Maybe even indefinitely depending on what's being searched...

Has anyone had any success viewing their SmugMug images?
02/28/2008 03:04:28 PM · #11
i had success on only one album (but it wouldn't show the entire gallery, just the ones on the page), so i'm not sure what's going on with that.

Thanks for the reply back. I haven't had any success yet with any albums but we do some research and see what the issue is. Take care!

Ok, so the first thing that annoys me about this things is that the download link on the website is smart enough to know that I'm using Firefox, but dumb enough to think I'm running it on a Mac. I see download and click, only to get an error during install. Read the fine print where windows users need to click a different link, then the Download link. BLOODY BRILLIANT...

Off to restart FF now to see if this is really worth the "Revolutionary" hype.

That is only because the OP posted a direct link to the MAC page.

haha, it's because piclens automatically routes you to that page. not my fault. there are still some shortcomings of piclens that need to be worked out, and i exaggerated a bit when i said it was revolutionary, but it really is an innovative concept that works especially well with google images.

I agree with CEJ about Preview being a good add, but PicLens probably won't stay for long, although it is good for mashing multiple galleries together which I like. The complaint I have about Preview is that the colors and shapes of the buttons and bars are butt ugly.
