I just received some comments by a photo I submitted for the silence challenge. In it the writer questions if I haven't done some illegal editing. I certainly have not and have already requested an Admin Note but I am wondering if I should tell this to the commenter. If I do I reveal my identity (and perhaps get an even lower score than I already have :)).

What do you think?

I`m in a similar position, except that I DID do some illegal editing..totally forgot about the rules for this challenge. I would like to be able to withdraw the entry or for somebody to request a DQ.
In my case, I feel that time spent evaluating and commenting on my submission is a total waste.

There seems to be mixed opinion about replying to comments during a challenge but in relation to your situation, I personally, don`t see a problem and I wouldn`t think that since you are clarifying the issue it would result in lower scores.

geewhy, you can request the dq yourself. If you know whatever you did is illegal.

Reason why I always use the Basic editing rules even for the Advance editing challenges. Just so I don't submit by accident. Too many challenges so it gets a bit confusing :P

So do I, 9 times out of 10..just this once I thought (at the last minute) that this adjustment would enhance the image...not concentrating.

Gordon.
Will definitely be requesting that it`s DQ`d

There is no rule against replying to comments during the voting. Some people see nothing wrong with it. Others feel that it undermines the integrity of the challenge by taking away anonymity. You never know what to expect so the safest as a far as your own score may be to wait until after voting closes. And try not to phrase your comments in a way that invites reply. Most people refrain from replying to comments during voting out of respect for the spirit and intent of the rules, and out of respect for the desires of the other contestants. Anonymity is an important part of the challenge voting. Positive communication between a commenter and the entering photographer after the voting is usually good and is encouraged.

I usually only reply when the commenter asks a specific question, phrased in such a way as it seems they WOULD like an answer. Othrwise, I prefer to wait until after the voting, when I usually forget to reply ....

Thank you all for your replies. I think the best thing to do is to wait and respond after the challenge. Normally this is the way how I handle comments during the challenge, but this was the first time that someone told me he/ she was having doubts if I had followed the editing rules. I guess I was a little upset about it because probably more people will think that way and may vote accordingly while the technique I used is legal.

Ah well, can't win them all :p.

Just a reminder to everyone ... VOTE AS IF ALL PHOTOS ARE LEGAL!!!

If they are not they will be DQ'd, but it is completely unfair to penalize based on unfounded suspicion.
