Anyone else understand the challenge, because I sure don't. Could someone please enlighten me? Thanks!

I think that it means.. your subject is showing some kind of interest or desire for something that you can't see. Something that's just outside of the constraints of the picture. Like.. a child reaching for something that's not in the picture. Or.. someone looking rather surprised by something off to the side that we can't see in the photo.

Hrm.. does that help at all?

I think I have a good example of this in the Surprise challenge:

Reaction to something that isn't in the picture. Capturing emotional reaction to a situation.

Why is "REALLY COOL" all caps?

I'm glad someone asked this question because I had no idea what we were supposed to shoot. I like the surprise example. Does anyone have any others (for inspiration) that were taken earlier (that you aren't submitting)?

Thanks!

I think the comment Lindsay made helped clear this up quite a bit. The description of the Challenge is a little confusing at best. Maybe someone can post a few more examples from previous shots they've taken.

Edit: More Examples Please! :)

I took this caps to mean that your photo will rely very much on expression and subject placement. As in, expressions might need to be really over the top for instance; someone looking at a Viper off screen would probably be a better capture than someone who just saw a Pinto.
Depending on your car preference of course ;-)

I've got a potentialy on-topic pic with three different reactions in one shot....I'm sure it's cuter to me because I know the subjects...one daughter is horrified, son is stupified, other daughter just found it funny. Too bad it was taken far outside of the challenge dates.

GoldBerry, Can we substitute a BMW E46 M3 over the Viper? :)

Laughing hilariously at the Pinto wouldn't make a bad picture. Depends on how good your models are.

Example:

There was a popular sports photo back in the day. It was a photo of a basketball player and the audience all looking in one direction, on the edges of their seats ... total anticipation.

What were they looking at? and Why?

The baller threw a last second shot to win the game. You can imagine how the fans, for AND against, would be gripping tightly to whatever they had.

I would even consider this an Off-Screen Expectation shot,

but after my conflict submission that very few understood, perhaps I am not the best judge ;)

Anyone else remember the classic photo in Life magazine of all the people in a movie theatre, wearing their 3-D glasses and being "horrified" by the movie (off-screen)?

Wow... Everybody repeat after me.... "old"...."school"... Yeah I remember it. Not from first publication, but I remember it. Does that mean I'm old (school)??? I hope not...

Here is a thought. Can you look at the challange from a slightly
different angle and photograph something other than a person and make the reader of the photo the one with the reaction. Show them a piece of something that makes them wonder what the rest of that is really like and evokes a strong emotion.
