I thought my "saltines" texture shot would have done a little better.
Shot a little on the arty side probably.

Hi Grace,
I liked your image, maybe a little sharper and up the contrast a little would have improved it?
Paul.

I had really high hopes for my textures shot and it started well but fell like a rock, but that is how it goes will just keep trying.

spectre013 - nice shot, but similar to the winner last time. that may have hurt. Also, i think some folks are saturated with pets.kids.flowers, etc. Now if the dog's eye was looking at the camera, that may have changed things.

gpierson - some parts of the image are too dark for my liking. I think the crop or composition could be improved. It looks nice in the thumbnail, but when viewed 'full size' it is just missing something..a focus perhaps?

My entry did better than last time. My title probably did help. Next time I will not tile my pic and see if that helps. I was hoping to do better, and at least i was original in content! I like the files' angle in the pic, but turning it to get that put the board they are sitting on at a non life like angle. No one comented on that, so it may not have been a factor or perhaps it was one of those things that you can't name but your mind rejects as 'wrong'.

Conflict - I am scoring much higher this time with what i think is a poorly executed idea.

I didn't expect my entry to do very well. Mainly because of the "where's the texture?" votes. If it had been another challenge, I think it may have done marginally better.

I got the connection. Two recomendations to make it a better pic - the glass of scotch should be the focus of the pic (the texture is in the scotch) but it is too dark and the biggest item in teh pic is the box - very obvious (from my perception) that you are trying to force the texture connection. I'd move the camera a bit to the right an try to light up the scotch in the glass - a mirror behind it or a spot light on it (flash light even).

One of the few 'dark' pics i like

Mine did a LOT better than I thought, I didn't think it would actually be my second highest rated shot.

I liked this photo, some people commented on the flat color, but in real life sometimes colors are just that; flat. I took particular note to prove this point yesterday at around sunset when everything was pretty, but the colors were naturally subdued.

Thank you VERY much for that kind comment! I did indeed get quite a few comments on the saturation. But an interesting thing though is that I did indeed increase the saturation quite a bit. But you are correct, this is pretty much the natural color, any more and it would have looked unnatural. Thank you for your observation. ;)

I expected mine to do very well, like in the mid 6's. I really love it, 5.969 is ok though...

Thamer,

Oops!

It's a very attractive photo but personally I gave it a 4. Why? Beacuse I voted on the basis of being able to FEEL the texture. Those I coudl feel automatically got a 5 and upwards based on artistic merit, technical proficiency, composition, originality etc. With yours I could not get any feel of a texture probably because it is too abstract. This is not to in any way take away from the photo itself - it's a 7 or 8 in its own terms but I for one did not feel it met what the challenge was looking for:)). As a relative newcomer I am finding it fascinating how the dynamics of voting work. Whatever else might be said, it's a fantastic place to learn!

My own photo came 128th - artistically poor and technically average?

andywightman,

Thanks for your opinion and I understand it. If you feel it deserved a 4 based on feeling the texture, then thats ok, I don't mind it. They're your eyes not mine :)

Actually, I gave this a 7... I loved the texture. I would have scored it higher except for the background and some crumbs on the butter. The lighting and "feel" of the butter was really good IMO.

I gave SoCal69 and Skamal's pics 8s - I thought they were very good :)

For the record... It wasn't my pic, it was AndyWightman's pic. Credit where credit is due.

I was surprised with my score and placing. I thought my shot wasn't that great.

Whoops, that's what I get for not reading more carefully :)
