I'm considering purchasing a nikon 17-55 or 70-200vr these seem to be classed as pro lenses, my question is,would they work well with my D80 as its descibed as a prosumer camera for the enthusiast.I love my D80 and find its the best camera i've ever owned and would like to get the best compatible lenses, any opinions would be helpful.

Most people will tell you that glass matters a lot more than the body.

You're going about it the right way -- buying the best lenses money can buy.

Lenses last a long time. Don't skimp on them. In the future, if you do choose to upgrade your camera, you'll have lenses that will work great with it.

Enjoy!

One thing to keep in mind if you have plans of upgrading cameras in the future, Nikon is starting to dive into the full frame sensor world which limits the use of DX lenses. So even though they are all nikon glass, choose carefully and be sure that the lens will be compatable with any future camera upgrades.

edit to add: The 17-55 2.8 is an awesome lens. Expensive but worth it, It is a quality build and the optics are awesome.
