How can I access my photos imported into iPhoto from Finder?
When I upload photos, I cannot find them.
I know I can right-click and 'Open Package Contents', but I can't do that in Safari.
I know there are many exporter plug-ins, but I am still curious.
Thanks.

I believe with newer versions of iphoto you can not access the photos through finder or any other out side source until you export them from within iphoto. I noticed the change when I updated several programs about six months ago.

How I deal with it at this point is upload the photos into iphoto from my camera then any photos I wish to work with, I export them to another folder. Kind of a hassle but i never have to worry about if i have my original photo in tact.

The way I do it is sort of backwards. I do a search for a title I know is in iphoto. then at the bottom of the search window it shows the chain of folders that that photo is filed in. One of them is Library.

The other way I do it is (in Leopard, I forget how I did it before) - In any folder window on the left is a picture of a house with my name on it. Then I go to Pictures and one of the choices is iPhoto Library. However, IPhoto haas such an a** backwards way of filing things based on the upload day, I think, that to find the library isn't so very helpful.

Not sure what you mean when you say you can't do this is Safari. Safari is a web browser

In the finder click on your hard drive (Usually called Macintosh HD)->Users->(Your user name)->Pictures->iPhoto Library

Hold the Control button and click on "Open Package Contents"

You will see folders arranged by year. The photos are in those folders.

This is how it works in Leopard.

Love it or hate it, this is iPhoto's attempt to protect you from yourself. All your photos are just a click away, however. Select a photo and select "export" and you can save a copy anywhere. Likewise, select a group or several photos, and export. Made edits and want the original back, "revert to original" before exporting and you have your virgin, EXIF-intact, ready for validation original ready for upload to DPC.

scarbrd, I know that you can 'Open Package Contents'. That's what I said in my first post. By Safari, I mean websites like Facebook that allow you to upload photos. I know there's a Facebook exporter for iPhoto.

I see, then use the export command and send them to a folder on your desktop. That's what I do for submitting origials for DPC. You can delete them after uploading.
