After taking the advice from some fellow DPCers, I used my $100 B&H gift card and bought the Canon 50mm 1.8 lens, and I LOVE IT! It is a HUGE step up from my kit lens, and it was only $75 with shipping! These are two photos that I took of my youngest after I got it in today. I know the second one could've been a lot sharper, but that face was too good to toss in the recycle bin! Let me know what you think! Thanks!

Most likely the best $100 you'll spend on this little hobby. I like the focus on the second shot, play with it a little to sharpen the eyes and you'll be framing it (surely one to present to his first girlfriend lol)

Still have that mean streak LOL...

I agree though, the 50mm f1.8 is a fantastic bit of kit, my wife hanae loves hers too.

I've probably used that lens more than all my other lenses put together.

I love the second photo - wish I could get something half as good.

I like the shallow DOF on #1. #2 is just plain fun. Enjoy your lens.

Count me as a fan of the 1.8.

Some dodging and burning, Optik Verve VP set to "photocopy", sat and dodge on eyes.

yup! the 50mm is locked and loaded right now. I love that lens. Good Purchase!
