There should be a checkbox to leave an anonymous comment during a challenege. Maybe this would encourage more people to leave comments, whether they don't already based on fear of being judged based on comment or getting hammered for being negative.

Replace the "this comment was helpfull" with a "report this comment to admins" link. non-public comments can't be marked helpfull and the replacement link would take care of abuse. Obviously the admins would still have access to who left the remarks!

Good idea. Almost anything that would encourage more constructive criticism is worth a try.

I agree 100%. Anything that will encourage more commenting would be great. I am new here and am craving input and criticism on my photos. My current entry for Mundane is a prime example. It is doing rather poorly. (Even worse than I expected.) Out of the 56 or so votes I have received, I haven't gotten 1 comment. Now, I did not expect this photo to ribbon, or even place in the top 20, but I also didn't expect the extremely low voting I have received. This is a case where I am really interested in what people don't like about the shot. Yet no one has commented.

I think that people should keep in mind that there are new members here all the time and that feedback, especially to explain what could be improved, is at least as important as leaving nice but generally unhelpful warm fuzzies like "Wow" and "Nice Shot". Especially from those who have been members for a while and/or those who have more experience than the rest of us. Certainly part of the fun for this, at least for me, is figuring out things on my own. However, information from people who have more knowledge in this area than I do would be a great help.

I think in general people are partially intimdated by leaving comments and being tied to them.

If this wasn't true, our voting records would be visible to everyone.
