Stick with photography? ;)
I know what you're talking about though. I downloaded blender once, thought it might be cool to dabble with 3D rendering. I made a ball once. And a cube. That's about the extent of it :)

Been doing 3D rendering and animation for over 20 years now. Started with an old package called BigD then moved on to Autodesk 3D Studio (now 3DS Max) around 1991. I don't know anything about Blender. If I can offer general tips along your journey, feel free to ask.

Blender's user interface is notoriously difficult to learn to use. There are probably lots of Blender tutorials online, as well as user forums. Getting a book like Essential Blender might be helpful as well. (Caveat: I have the book, and while the content seems pretty good, the printing is low quality). You also may want to check out Povray.

made a sweet candle and a table in 3d s max, took 2 years of engineering during highschool, we used autodesk in that, once you learn the basics you'll like it, tutorials are great to look at if they are video ones cause you can rewind them and it shows where to go to use what option
