I thought it may be cool to join model mayhem to get inspirations and hopefully meet up with a couple models. I filled out a profile completely and did all the requirements needed to join the site, but they have to "approve" me before I can do anything but look at peoples profiles. So I wait...and wait...and wait...and wait... and ten days later I start to get worried so I contact the site asking if my profile had been put on hold or something and asking if there was anything I had forgotten when putting together my profile.

No response...

The next day this email: "Your Model Mayhem account has been closed. Please log into the site
for more information." I log into my account and there is nothing there even hinting at why they denied me. I looked at every possible reason they list in their help section as to why a profile is denied....I am not a pornographer...I am not posing to be someone I am not...im not being illegal I am not doing anything wrong.

Does anyone else use Model Mayhem and did you have all these problems?! I am aching to leave comments on all the work that has been inspiring me this past 2 weeks as I wait to be accepted to the site.

***update: restarting from the beginning I was able to get my profile accepted

ahhhh the MM is at it again. don't worry sign up again and go thru the process. it took me three tries to get on there. but unfortunately there is not that many models in my area that uses that site very much but it does give me inspirations of what to try and to try and obtain.

Well I got on MM the first try. I have since removed my profile.

I had a model scheduled to shoot and she had already agreed to pay me. About a week before our scheduled shoot she canceled because another photographer on MM agreed to shoot her for free.

I have done some freebies and realized that day that I would do no more. It is pretty shitty to get paid work then have another photographer go under you and do a freebie. I just no longer want to be associated with that.

So my suggestion would be to stay away.

I got in the first try, too - if I can get in somewhere, anyone can, so I'm sure it was just some kind of mistake on their part.

Um... MM is pretty slummy, but it IS an interesting place to lurk... and Maria and Jason from the shot have profiles there. ;)

I'm not sure what the deal is with you getting turned down, as I also got in on the first try, no problem. I can tell you that the site has been very sketchy the past few months, as far as load times, pix being unavailable--just general site issues. They've been supposedly upgrading their servers, but it doesn't seem to be working. FWIW, I have noticed that the new models registering in my area have slowed WAY down, and I doubt it is due to no one trying to get in. I think they may just simply not taking anyone new right now, because of bandwidth issues. I'm just guessing on that, but it is probably an accurate guess. :) I love MM for finding models for stock. I shoot them TFCD, and they sign off on a model release. I have a LOT of my stock portfolio filled with MM models. And there are some FANTASTIC photographers in my area that shoot TFCD. If all I ever took was paid work, I wouldn't even bother with MM. My stock sales are my pay. Take that for what it's worth, but you have to understand what MM will (and will NOT) do for you. But keep trying. I can't imagine they would reject you for not being a good enough photographer, so give it another shot (so to speak).

Good luck!

Believe it or not, this issue has not bee resolved in the last 10 YEARS. Model Mayhem continues to delete new profiles with NO EXPLANATION.

It's a surprising way to do business; that is to slap a new potential client in the face right off the bat, without even the courtesy of an explanation.

I mean, can't they just pick from a list? 1. Photos too explicit. 2. Photos not refined/professional enough. Or whatever the issue is... rather than make their new members GUESS at what the problem was?

Whoa! No explanation?

You need to escalate this... and see what they say.
