I'm in!

Been a while since I've entered a challenge (almost 5 months! I hope I can handle the update-button ;)).

2nd christmas-day is a perfect day to shoot some. Love speed-challenges!

Is this a language barrier thing, or is it a joke you're making? In case it's the former, we say you put something "through its paces" when you try it out and see how it performs. The term derives from horse training.

I've just completed my submission! It is essential that you read the title in order to clearly understand the connection between the picture and "Bad Christmas Present" challenge theme

Hope it puts a smile on your face.

Unfortunately many people either do not read the title, or feel that it is shoehorning to depend on the title to make the connection to the challenge. Some voters feel the photo needs to be able to stand on its own.

You impressed me with your use of shoehorn. When used as a verb it means - "fit for a specific purpose even when not well suited" . It is gratifying to know that "some voters" are so astute and perfectly attuned to the meaning of each work. "Some voter" should help us out and publish a work defining the meaning of life. It would not even need a title since as you pointed out "the photo needs to be able to stand on its own."

Obviously, you certainly pushed my button when all I was trying to do was join in and share the fun of the speed challenge. Don't bother replying, your comments would only be insulting. Just do me a favor and have the fortitude to speak for yourself.

Sounds a bit harsh to me. I shoehorn quite often and I am also pretty accepting of the shoehorned image. But there are voters out there who are not. Thems the chances you take. I do not believe she was trying to push any buttons. Maybe she just accidentally bumped into yours.

slow down, louis.

BAMartin was simply letting you know how some voters react. She did not, in fact, state that this was her opinion or MO in anyway. It was more of a "public service announcement," if you will.

Well brother she was just trying to enlighten you to the fact that on this site, voters can and will be harsh. I don't think she was trying to get your ire up just to kind of prepare you.

But since you were tweaked by her comment of help you will unfortunately see that she is correct when the votes start coming in. "DNMC" and "SHOEHORNING" are beat down in the challenges. I think she was trying to be nice with her comments not rude.

But anyway good luck!

This could be like the Ebay challenge and give an opportunity to enter a shot of any old object. I am looking at it as not so much of a photography contest this time, but an opportunity to share a laugh at some bizarre gifts. I already used my own stupid gift to my sister in law in the Ebay challenge:

She pretended to really like it. Last year she gave me an extensible fork, for stealing food off other's plates. We may have a case of escalating gag gifts going on for a couple more years.

I don't guess any of you noticed that I deleted my comments only moments after making them. I realized they were overly harsh and uncalled for. Unfortunately, my inappropriate statements were posted long enough for replies.

Now for something more important.

thegrandwazoo, is your comment a threat or an implication that I can look forward to "payback" by warning me.......you will unfortunately see that she is correct when the votes start coming in. "DNMC" and "SHOEHORNING" are beat down in the challenges. But anyway good luck!

Speak up or are you just trying to be nice.................

Dude what is the deal everyone here is trying to be helpful and really how the heck could it be a threat when all the images are anonymous?

Lighten up bro we are trying to be nice but it seems you are reading with angry eyes...

Wow - someone needs a little more fiber in their diet.

Louis,
There was NOTHING threatening about the wazz's post. he was simply saying that IF you entry depends on the title to fit, there WILL be comments about dnmc and shoehorning. He was simply stating a fact of dpc. That's all.

AND, while I see you DID remove your first comment (thank you), you are still jumping to conclusions a bit. Might I remind you of Forum Rule #13

Assume good faith. When replying to a post, your reply must assume that the original poster's message was intended to be constructive and follow the rules. It's difficult to convey facial expressions or tone of voice over the forums, so a post that appears offensive may be well intentioned. If you cannot assume the original poster acted in good faith, report the post in question, and do not reply at all.
12/26/2007 03:48:36 PM · #18
Well, before you email me an official reprimand I will express my regrets for offending dpc and all those who replied. To conclude this little interlude....My fiber content is just fine, thank you for your concern. No hangover...I simply got ticked off when I should not have. And I guess if the shoehorn fits it must be mine.

Actually, it was wazoo's fiber intake I was worried about.

Just relax and have fun. It's all just virtual play anyways.
