How Gullible Are We?
Very is the answer, now I need a glass of something wet.
A student at Eagle Rock Junior High won first prize at the Greater Idaho Falls Science Fair. He was attempting to show how conditioned we have become to alarmists practicing junk science and spreading fear of everything in our environment. In his project he urged people to sign a petition demanding strict control or total elimination of the chemical "dihydrogen monoxide."
And for plenty of good reasons, since:
1. it can cause excessive sweating and vomiting
2. it is a major component in acid rain
3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
4. accidental inhalation can kill you
5. it contributes to erosion
6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients
He asked 50 people if they supported a ban of the chemical.
* Forty-three (43) said yes,
* Six (6) were undecided,
* Only one (1) knew that the chemical was water. H2 (dihydrogen) O (monoxide).
The title of his prize winning project was, "How Gullible Are We?"
He feels the conclusion is obvious.

there was a radio station here that announced that a entire city should be on alert since dihydrogen monoxide was found in all the water mains.....several businesses even shut down before they realized it was April 1st........

oh yeah, my fav was a lady who owned a business who called in and said "i have a hair salon...should i shut down? i dont want to be burning my customers heads!"

The funniest part is that everything is true, just stated in a scare-mungering way

Yup... need it to sweat and too much of it can make you vomit
2. it is a major component in acid rain
and regular rain
3. it can cause severe burns in its gaseous state
steam is water in a gaseous state
4. accidental inhalation can kill you
it's called drowning in layman's terms :-)
5. it contributes to erosion
yes.. been known to even carve out river beds
6. it decreases effectiveness of automobile brakes
hydroplaning
7. it has been found in tumors of terminal cancer patients
and every other cell in the patients' bodies...

it's espcecially dangerous in the winter when cold air and northwesterly winds cause it to accumulate in the northeastern and midwest parts of the US.

Justifiability so I would think :-o/ At least I would have been an undecided... not that I would have recognised it most likely, just that I tend not to sign anything I don't know (or at least have better sources of lies). |

Besides, water is the primary ingredient in beer. Thus the famous slogan, "It's the water!". Bonus points for first to identify the brand...
