I never know what to say when I get asked what food I'll be bringing to the party.....

I call them porcupines, but of course nobody knows what I'm talking about.

Do they have a real name - something specific, not just a generic "snack" or "appetizer" ?

He he he, you guys are such clowns! I do like some of your ideas.

It is making me feel a bit better that I'm not the only one that couldn't figure out their real name :-)

Oliver, perhaps I dimly remembered the "Party Igel" from my childhood in Germany. I assume that is why I've been calling them "porcupines".

This is easy when asked what you are bringing answer “something” and walk away. Also on that note you should notify slippy Strikeslip that you have the recipe for what he is looking for on this post //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=710606

Yup, that's what we call it here too; when you take toothpicks of food morsels and display them stuck in something like that, that's a hedgehog.

In recipes, "porcupine" usually refers to a style of crispy meatball made with rice, which sticks out, hence the name.

These are definitely not "kebabs" of any sort, because they mostly have a single ingredient on them, sometimes two. Anyway, properly speaking "kebab" refers to a style of cooking, on skewers over open flame.

"Hedgehog" is good. You can always call them Beetle Hedgehogs, jejeje™

They look like an Accident Waiting to Happen.

1. Art Roflmao has too much to drink.
2. Art falls headfirst into party hedgehog.
3. Art spends the rest of the night chatting up guests with a hedgehog stuck to his forehead.

sidetrack: I had a real good friend when I was in tech school in the Navy. He was half Japanese and half Mexican and he got yelled at during a personnel inspection because he had hair growing under his eyes and never shaved it. The inspector said he looked like a "damn hedgehog!" - from that point foreward, he was known as "Hedgehog". I am always reminded of him when I hear "hedgehog". He was killed by a drunk driver in San Diego in the late 80's in his mid twenties. :(

Pass the Bobs.

Ok, hedgehogs they are!

Next time I get blank looks, I'll just feel all superior, and make it THEIR problem for not knowing :-)

Thanks guys, for the serious answers as well as the for the giggles.
