But I went with my entry as I thought the background was too distracting here.

Entry:

With my second highest score so far with this entry, I think I picked the right one.

Decided not to go with one of those "dpc-friendly" images, probably won't do it again.

That is really funny.
The entry is really solid but for us "Eye Candy" folks, you need to make it easy for us and give is the colors and extreme sharpness

Thanks to all for the votes, I'm pretty happy with my 5th place finish (a little disappointed it fell below 7 right at the end but oh well).

Here are a few outtakes from the Oahu Northshore:

Not an outtake but I thought this shot looked like a camera commercial (and yes, there were a few Nikons in there):

If your inteerested and willing to sort through some vacations shots here is a link to the rest of my Hawaii shots:

Don't you love Waimea? I loved it! Great photos.

Yup. When I used to live on Oahu it was my favortie beach (but that was 37 years ago!) The whole Northshore is great and the only part of old Hawaii left on Oahu. These shots were actually taken at the Bonzai Pipeline, Sunset Beach and Haleiwa. The Triple Crown Surf Championship was going on when I was there.

here is one I considered, or close to it, this one is unedited

I figured something like this would have been more common than a man with an ax...

a frozen water fall - not colorful enough and did not really pop

alternative to my submission - but without the "special something"

I think you chose right for Stopped Motion. The shape of the splash is excellent. While in those colorful eye candy the water stream isn't as sharp.

I shot for this challenge, but didn't submit. This would have been my entry.......

My match stick photo did not go well... I'm wondering how this one would go... maybe even worse...

The type of shot I wanted to submit. Unfortunately I don't have a 'proper' camera still (my D50 was stolen) and point and shoots go only so far when stopping action.

I got this shot though. In my dreams it would have been a bit sharper, without flash, yet still frozen and on a clean white background.

I'd have submitted it then.

This was my alternate entry:
This is my entry re-edited based on the comments, and worked-over to try and give it the appearance of a model rather than a real freeway:

I actually like the outtakes better, probably because the motion isn't totally stopped. In the entry, the bird looks like it's stuffed.
