I am planning a trip for my hubby and I for 4 weeks next May/June. I am leaning towards the European countries but I am not decided as yet. But I do have to consider booking in the next few weeks.

So with all the different nationalities on here, I thought I would ask you all....what country would you recommend for that time of the year and is there anything in particular celebrated at that time of the year that is worth seeing. Obviously I will have my cameras with me so I don't want a holiday where I am lying on the beach all day, every day.

So throw some ideas at me.

You could come to Canada. Victoria, Québec City, and Montréal are all nice that time of year.

We went to Disneyland in May a few years ago, and it was a nice temperature for the whole trip.

Some cool ideas coming in...but tell me please...what is the weather like at that time of the year...example...snow etc. Also is their anything significant at that time of the year in the area you recommend.

Yellowstone National Park, in Wyoming and Montana. My new favorite place :). Could be snow, but the roads will be clear and there will be lots of baby animals to see. Go late May/early June and beat the summer rush.

I think it's pretty much impossible to narrow down without knowing a LOT more about what kind of trip you want and what kind of stuff you want to see and do.

We could list pretty much every country in Europe (and many outside it) with their average weather patterns for that time of the year and you'd probably not be any closer to narrowing down your destination!

Sorry, not trying to be unhelpful but... can you give us anymore about what you are looking for?

Here's a couple:

May/ June is (usually) a lovely time in the UK (though there are never any guarantees with our weather) and there's so much to see whether you're into city breaks, history, nature, coasts, people...

France is another favourite of mine, also good weather that time of year and, as above, offers a huge variety. I particularly enjoy driving holidays in France.

Iceland is on my wishlist, would probably be wonderful.

But of course, you have Spain, Portugal, Italy, Switzerland, Germany and many more, all great destinations.

If you want something more exotic consider Morocco or Istanbul...

If I can ever afford it, I'd love to go to Australia for a holiday!

Someplace cheap, free, clean, beautiful, friendly, accessible, has public transportation, good restaurants, and a camera store.

Ireland.

Should you not cross the great water, I recommend Quebec City and Montreal, where people know how to live and eat, plus old old buildings and they speak French but you don't have to and they do not disdain English speakers. A must for every North American. Countryside not bad either.

Victoria in May has flowers in full bloom, ivory growing on hotels, and I think the waterfront artists might be out by then. No snow, but there still might be some rainy and windy days (though June would be getting better).

I'm not sure about weather in Québec that time of year, but tnun's advice in the previous post is spot-on.

Southern Italy. Beautiful scenery, food, weather, locals, architecture and everything else. You can hire scooters for smt like 14 euros a day, take a ferry to Sicily, hike up a volcano and do all kinds of stuff. You could rent a car and see the rest of it too like Rome, Naples, Milan, Calabria and everywhere else.

Okay. Here is a couple of things that might help narrow it down (thanks Kavey :)))) ).

- I don't want to go to Greece as my husband is Greek and I DO NOT want to visit family on this trip....grrrrrrrrrrr!! I will go to Greece another time.

- I don't want to be stuck on a tour bus with old folks...!! But at the same time I don't want to be stuck in a pub with a mob of drunk teenie boppers!

- I do want to relax and see the non touristy sights with my camera.

- I am prone to the chalets and castles and beautiful leaf covered mountains...but I don't want to spend the entire time looking at the same type of thing every day.

- I don't want to be stuck with a group and not be able to venture out by myself.

- I haven't left the shores of Australia before...so I know nothing about the countries in general. I have hammered Travel Agents and brochures and online...but what they tell you and what real people tell you are two different things. I want to see life but at the same time...have fun.

Over here people frequent Bali all the time...that is not what I want...I want to go somewhere away from the norm...something a bit different...see festivals...or countryside. Yeah I would like to see the Eiffel Tower and all that stuff...but I don't want to be stuck in one place and not be able to move.

Does that help?

:))))))

Fly to Northern California, rent a car for the month. Do Big Sur, Carmel for fabulous coastal nature in the footsteps of Weston and Adams.

Do San Francisco for hip American urban.

Mosey up the coast through redwood country, even through Oregon if you like.

Then go inland, travel back south through Lassen Volcanic park and then to Yosemite.

back to SF and home :-)

Bring tent and gear so you can camp, if you like that stuff, and save money.

Wonderful trip.

R.
