OK kiddies, here's the news you've all been waiting for!

Got my copy of PC Magazine yesterday and on page 129 there is an ad for Broadway Photo offering the 300D with lens for $799.99, or $699.99 without the lens. Their website is $929 and I have heard there are backorder situations at some dealers, so it may be too good to be true. But if you have decided on the Rebel you may want to check it out. The phone number in the mag ad is 1-800-514-0163, different than on the website.

well, hopefully this is an indicator of future price drops as I would love to pick one up for $800. Wouldn't think twice about it.

However, broadway photo is a terrible place to do business with. Check them out at resellerratings.com before you order so you at least know what you're getting yourself into.

On the other hand, when I bought my Sony video camera, I brought a copy of the broadway video low ball price to Sears, and they price matched it. So broadway camera is good for something ;)

You can do the same price match at Best Buy as well. So bring that add to the (well in vegas) returns/service repair area with the camera and lens, which they do carry, and you have become the 1millionth person to own a 300D all for the price of $699.

Broadway photo deals in a lot of products that do not Carry US warranties and I bet this is the case here. And as previously said, they are an awful place to deal with.

Best buy probably wont match the price because when they use the skew number they will probably be able to verify that this product does not Carry a US warranty.

I could be wrong but this is just my 2 cents worth.

I purchased my camera at Circuit City for $999. Got a $100 gift card back in the mail. Free shipping. And, purchased their 4 year additional warranty plan for only $124.00. I feel as if I got an awesome deal and piece of mind for the next 5 years.

Best Buy here in town will generally match prices of internet dealers but it has to be the price with overnight shipping.

I got mine from circuitcity.com, $929 with free shipping (although I paid an extra $20 for overnight shipping).

But Sears doesn't care. Any they carry the Rebel. Plus they have a moneyback guarantee on just about eveything. You can't go wrong, as long as you don't expect the salespeople to know anything. ;)

In fact, they may tell you at first they don't price match, or they are "not sure" about B-way photo, etc. Just tell them that this is what you want, to find out, and let you know when they do. With my video cam, the salesman made me wait until the manager got back. But I had some more shopping to do so I just walked around the mall for a while, then came back. (And they had already called me and left a message at my home.)

I bought my big screen TV the same way. Had an unbeatable one day sale at one of the major internet stores. I bought it online knowing it would not ship for a few days but to lock in the offer. Then I went to sears, showed them my online sales receipt, and they matched the price, and even beat it so that I would pay the same after paying local taxes.

Earned my respect!

Regards--Neil

No dice. I took the ad to both BEST BUY and SEARS and neither would match the price.

Has anyone done business with Digital Liquidators? In the Mar issue of Popular Photography, page 117, they're advertising a dRebel kit for $749 (USD).

I had previously ordered something from them, they are pretty cheap, but same as the other ones that are much too cheap, they sell you only the camera body, then everything else like batteries and charger and neckstrap will be an additional 500 dollars after you purchase the camera. They usually will call you and tell you that your order does not include anything, so you should order everything on top of it. General rule of thumb is that, if the prices are 200-300 cheaper than everywhere else, this is what they are doing.
They called me up, told me that the product I ordered which was listed as in stock is not in stock. And I can either wait about 3-4 months!!! or buy the grey market product with no warranties. So, I told them to kiss my ass (not really), but rather I cancelled my order and then ordered from another legitimate retailer paying 200 more but for the proper product and not some grey market import.

Just don't take the bait, nothing is THAT good. Don't be too greedy people, you are already spending that much cash, so whynot just buy some peace of mind along with it.

Here's the current price matching policy text from Sears own site. You can decide how it might apply to you:

Sears Price Matching Plus Policy

If you find a lower price on an identical branded item with the same features currently available for sale at another local retail store Sears will match that price Plus, give you 10% of the difference. Just tell your sales associate at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase.

If you find a lower price (including shipping, handling and delivery) on an identical branded item with the same features currently available for sale and delivery in your area from a local retail store's online site, Sears will match that total price Plus, give you 10% of the difference. Just print the ordering page, including shipping, handling and delivery, and bring it to your Sears store at the time of, or within 30 days after, your purchase. If you are purchasing the item from sears.com, email the information to order@sears.com

OfficeDepot has the Canon EOS-300D with 18-55mm lens in stock for $999, and it's eligible for their 10% off Digital Cameras promotion. That's $900 for the whole enchilada and you don't have to worry about gray market. Sears.com has a similar deal, but you have to use a Sears card. Happy shopping.

Has anyone actually tried to buy the Digital Rebel from Broadway at the advertised price?
02/19/2004 10:19:13 AM · #15
Ummm...I would steer clear of Broadway Photo.

Check out Broadway Photo's reseller ratings. Be sure to scroll down the page and read the reviews posted by previous customers.

How could Circuit City's rating be so low?

there was a pricing error on a hard drive where there were multiple rebates listed. They decided not to honor one of the rebates, and it made a lot of people angry. I guess a lot of them expressed their view on resellerratings

No flash Sync bothers me about the Rebel,now I'm sorry I didn't get the 10D ! :-(

i tried to get my f717 from sears at the digital liquidators price, as well as broadway photos price, who both btw have one of those bait and switch plans. So anyways i tried getting my f717 for like 490 or something like that, but in the price match policy it says that the store has to be LOCAL.

Synchronize so that the flash and shutter both fire at the same time maybe?

For example if you meter the subject in A mode and the speed is 1/8 of second and you pop up the flash, the speed stays at 1/8 of second!!!!(flash in A,TV anc M modes does not affect your exposure which sucks !)

IN P mode works.
