Does anyone have experience/recommendations for a good point and shoot camera? My wife hates lugging my camera around so the only pics of my kids are the ones I take. So, I need a good P&S for her to put in her purse/diaper bag. Thanks!

How much do you want to spend?
Do you want to find a small Point and shoot or would a larger Digicam be ok also?
I am no expert, but this will help those who make suggestions. :)

I like any of the canon powershot SD's. I've given at least 5 as gifts over the last couple of years and everyone has loved them.

in terms of money - no real limit but don't want to spend $1000 on a point and shoot

It looks indestructable, but doesn't seem to have Aperture, Manual, or shutter priority settings.

specs from Olympus page.

Could be good with kids around though.

From what the OP noted as the intended use, I don't think these matter -- this is supposed to be snatched from the "diaper bag" (note: waterproof feature may apply here!) and used to take pictures of the kids while they're still doing whatever inspired the idea to take the photo in the first place (national average: 4.8 seconds*), without fiddling around with any menus or settings.

A waterproof camera can also come in handy at the pool or beach, or for taking pictures in the rain.

*OK, I made that up ...

Lugged two Fuji p&s on my trips all over the place plus day to day snapshot use and they were champs. Good image quality and the right features. I would certainly recommend the brand again.

well i went to pick up the 770 but they didnt have it so i settled for the the olympus 720sw, its cheeper and cant go as deep, only shockproof up to 5 feet rather the 10 or so the 770 is. My brothers wife uses it and she loves it. nice large screen to, i think the 770 has a hyper cristal, the 720 dosnt, but its still a diecent camera. i think i paid 250 for the 720

Since you are already shooting Canon, I would give a serious look at two different cameras...

The Canon G9 and the Canon S5 IS both look nice to me...
