We all are witnessing a legend being born. He might be very well "Michael Jordan" of photography of his kind.

Let's hope he is. Let's hope he maintains his focus and continues to grow and expand his horizons. I get the sense that he's looking towards a career in film, and hope that works out for him.

Not sure if I would go that far. He hasn't done anything impactful to deserve it. My problem is most of his shots I have seen from other photographers. Most of his "creativity" is a rip off of others work. There is nothing shocking or awe inspiring about his work. Its just pretty good but nothing close to legendary. He is a great photographer and def very good at marketing himself. He is just one of the many great photographers among thusands and thousands.

The pictures look good, they all look like music videos from the past few years, and you will be stoned for pointing it out. Or are stoned to be pointing it out. One or the other.

I'm sure we can welcome all viewpoints about photographers and their photography. I encourage everyone to keep things civil and not let this thread deteriorate like others on this topic have.

glad to see someone else has same opinion as mine. I am surprised now a days becoming legend is so easy. I used to think people devote their lives and still could not be called legend.

Maybe we could just be glad that one of own is achieving off-site success.

Perhaps it's his general positive attitude that makes people want to work with him, in addition to his talent.

I think it is great. I wish I had his drive at 18. When I was 18 I could only think of two things (Omitted). :-)

I wonder if people have noticed Joey isn't around much anymore? I wonder if they have correlated this with the amount of joey-bashing that's going on around here?

I find it disgusting.

He's a KID that is making good with a God-given talent. Can't we wish him well? He's one of ours, for lawdsake...

I agree. Whatever the debate on his "legendary" designation, he is a talented, hardworking, humble guy who is gracious under fire and does appear to come around a lot less. Sad loss, but he is one of our own and I will always wish him all the success in the world!

And I want to add that its ok to not care for his work, or find that he's not as talented as some say, but that he's becoming successful and is one of our own is indisputable, and we should critique the work and not slam the person.

I do also wish him all the success in life. I do wish him prosperous time ahead.
But it seems at DPC if some photographer's work most of the people like and admire and if someone does not follow other's opinion. It is named bashing. What I said about Joey is my honest opinion. I went through his portfolio and I found just one photo that was close to something I would call art. Others were just heavily post processed snapshots. I looked at Larus' portfolio and I could say more than 60 percent of it is art not just photographs. This is my opinion. And I find it disgusting that someone find expressing opinions disgusting.
I am not impressed by his work, but I admire his enthusiasm and hardwork.

Honestly, if someone actually stopped to bash my work out of the blue I'd take it as a compliment. It would mean my status was way up there. However that said this isn't the thread for it and as Bear mentioned he is connected to this site so you would also be bashing this site as well for he being a product of it.

Sheez...I am black and blue from copping the Judi bashing...but I am not sure it is all complimentary. It certainly does make you feel whether its all worth it...and in some ways it pushes you to strive more in your field. So those bashers are actually helping in some way.

Yes there is a lot of bashing here at DPC...but no more than any other site. You will find that most photographers spread themselves over a few sites...more publicity in some ways.

Joey is a fantastic person/photographer/role model for all ages/and can take a bashing with dignity.

So regardless of what you see in him or his work...enjoy his success...he truly deserves it.

Hey, my post got deleted. I'm shocked. So let me repeat it.

a) All that has been posted here is critique of the work, not the man - that is not Joey bashing, that is critiquing art

b) his limited involvement with the site has not precluded him from posting when he was wares to sell

That's weird - I did see that post.

Anyway, back to the OP, great blog on Joey - I believe he's an amazing talent with tremendous maturity. I'm excited to see what his career in film or photography brings.

In my opinion, anybody who bashes Joey is an asshole.

But that's just my opinion.

As much as the guy didn't ring my bells (I always found him a wee bit arrogant), you cant deny the guy s a massive talent, people like Zxaar & Superdave, well, you only need to look at their portfolios to realise its probably just jealousy.. The fact that people, from around the world, are knocking on his door and booking him left, right and center show that he is a recognised talent, and considering his age, I reckon he is a name that will be known around the world by the time he is 30, no shit, he will be up there with the greats.. I understand if you dont like his work, the fact is, he is a commercially successful photographer at the tender age of 18, travelling the world and getting paid to do it, something 99.9999999% of people on here would love to do, but will never do it.

Why do people have to always knock success, thats something I thought was reserved for us Brits..

Go Joey! just make sure you drop back in here every once in a while.
