it has been a really long time since I have posted, but I need your help.
I have recently broken my afnikkor28-80 f:3.3-5.6. I am looking for a replacement lens but not necessarily the same lens. I am looking to spend no more than £100(200$). I would prefer a better lens with the simular focal length but possibly a smaller appature. I mostly do portrait work I have found that the focus is a bit hit and miss with this lens and would love to have better crisper photos especially in the eyes.
Could anyone please point me in the right direction?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

xx
Anni
p.s. I meant lens not lebns..opps

Instead of finding a lens that fits your budget, find a lens that fits youe needs and find the money to buy that.

okay forget price, what kind of lens do you suggest?

Nikon 50mm f1.8
that is as good as it gets for the price.

otherwise i can recommend the tammi 28-75 f2.8, it's a bit pricier but very good for portraits and it's a zoom lens with a similar range as the one you had before.

much appreciated I have seen a few on those on eBay going for really cheap and I know those are great in low light. It is just the fixed focal length , because it is my only lens at this time.

Does anyone have any recommendations for flash that ttl with the nikon d70?

but it's a good thing for learning, because with a fixed lens you don't loose yourself in zooming in and out. with a fixed lens you always have to walk away or go closer and find new perspectives.

a really cheap way to get creative lighing with flashes is to get a cheap flash (like the metz 36af) and a cactus pt-04 transmitter/receiver set, which allows you to fire your flash wireless. it's awesome for outdoor portrait work as well as in a studio with selfmade shoot-through-umbrellas or reflectors. it'll cost you a maximum of 50-60$ including the flash light, the wireless set and an old tripod to put the flash on.

i have just bid for one on ebay, if I win at what it is going for I can buy 2 lenses!! yay!!
as for that flash it sounds really complicated. Not sure if I would be able to set it up myself. I have been taking photos for years and using my digital slr for 2, I have only recently started using the onbored flash rubber banding a white napkin around it (I'm so cheap LOL. So to sum it up I am a total flash noob. :)

If you want to try out the Nikon flash, I have some on my rental site. I also have a bunch of Nikon lenses you can try as well.

In that case you might enjoy reading Strobist Blog. David has a lot of posts in his archives about cheap lighting solutions.
