Can you go back to being amateur? Or are you an ex-pro? What does one call himself?

Point and shoot shooter.

I do believe you can call yourself what ever you want. Generally, pros make money for their work; amateur usually don't. My preference would be to shun the terms "pro" or "amateur" for beginner, intermediate, advanced, or expert.

I believe there are a few "pros" who have gone "con", landing themselves in the slammer for some rather unprofessional behavior. (and that's how the rest of us get the bad rap)

I think it's like being a doctor: even after you retire, you still keep the honorific. I think of myself as a professional photographer even though I no longer have a profession...
