Came across this when looking to purchase CS3. They say you can register the product you get with adobe. Is this legit and legal?

My way to look at is, if you have to question the legality, then it is very likely that its illegal :P

Don't have a clue. I purchased CS3 through Adobe using a student discount for only $399 (instead of the current normal price of $1,199).
That included: Acrobat 8 Professional, Bridge, Device Central, ExtendScript Toolkit 2, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, LiveCycle Designer 8, Photoshop, Stock Photos.

I bought an 6 CD collection (educational license) from Journey Ed. about 5(?) years ago. It came with Acrobat, GoLive, LiveMotion, InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop 7 all for $399. You just need a student ID or proof that you work at an educational institution. Great company to work with and the software was completely legal. When I started my [small] photography business I upgraded to CS (non-educational license) for $180 I think. Definitely the cheaper way to go...buy the educational license and then upgrade to regular.
EDIT: For just CS3 it's $299.

Could sign up for that course and get a student ID. The money you'd save would be well worth the cost.

| Well there are student discounts like that one for $299, but through a lot of schools you can buy software licenses, and download the demo off adobe for free. At my school it costs $149 for a license. No idea for that original link, altho they claim it's legal *shrug* |

The price of it makes me feel like it is legit. You could just get it from the adobe site it to safe and sure.

I bought an academic bundle with CS3 and Lightroom for $379 from these guys. I think PS by itself is $289. It is legal, but you have to prove you're a current student. I registered for a one credit hour class at the local community college, which cost $33. I sent my registration papers in as proof, then dropped the class and got $20 of the $33 back.
If someplace is offering a current version of PS for less than $600, and it isn't an academic version, it isn't legal. Adobe doesn't sell this stuff that cheap. Ever. If you get incredibly lucky, you *might* be able to find an older version on ebay that someone bought but never installed, but that's rare, too.
edit to add: I had an older version of PS that I bought from one of those places. It worked fine, until I had a computer crash. When I tried to reinstall it, I couldn't activate it. If I had a legal copy I could have just called Adobe, and wouldn't have needed to buy another copy.

One other thing to note is that an educational license usually means you cannot use it for your business (if you have one).

Well, if you have a business, you can write most of the cost off on taxes over the "life" of the software. If you're just an amateur with an occasional print sale, the educational license should serve just fine.

or you could just download the demo and run a key-generator program and whistle a tune all the way to your studio... lalalal
I mean what is this CS3 thing?? ...combat simulator 3000?
Too be honest I'd have to agree with routerguy666, sorry but that wasn't much help... |

| //photoshop.softwarecenterz.com/ free 30 day download see if you like it before you buy it. I use Photoshop 6.0 on xp comp and 7.0 on vista I don't plan on upgrading I am happy with these. psart |
