I have just spent the last two hours trying to move my photos from my Canon Digital Rebel to my computer without any luck. I have transfered photos from a digital camera before to my compter with no trouble. Anyone know of this problem? A solution or step I might be missing?

What method are you using? What OS?

What type of computer are you using, PC or Mac? Did you install the software that came with the camera? Do you have Photoshop? Are you connecting the camera to a USB port? If so, is your USB port configured correctly? It is hard to say what you need to do without knowing how your system is currently set up.

I recently bought a Canon EOS-10D. I installed the software per the instructions, then when I plugged the camera into a USB port the software started automatically and I was able to transfer the images from the camera with no trouble. It could not have been easier. Although, now I just pop the CF card from the camera into my card reader and transfer the files using Windows explorer, just like copying files between hard drives. If you do not have software for your Rebel then you will need to find and install a TWAIN driver that supports the camera. The software that normally comes with the Rebel is your best bet. If all else fails you might try the R.T.F.M. approach.

Regards,
Mick

most computers made in the last few years have the ability to recognize the camera (or whatever) being connected. If you use Windoze (sorry, that you do), you probably need to go the Canon website and the 300D area to download the specific driver for it.
You may want to check if there is different transfer "protocols" for the Rebel. My nikon has mass storage (computer just recognizes it as another hard disk), or the software specific one for Nikon. Check your owners manual. I leave mine on the mass storage, mainly because I had an incident that it downloaded my RAW stuff as small jpegs and then erased them. I do it myself now.

To reiterate what has already been said - make sure you've installed the software fully, rebooted, then give it a go.

Buy a Compact Flash Card Reader and make your life lots easier.

Sorry for the lack of deatil, it was quite late for me when I posted.

I use:
PC running Window XP
I installed the Canon Software
I have Photoshop 7, Photoshop Elements 2.0
My USB has worked fine for my other camera and for other devices.

I will try the website driver, though I believe they came with the software...... (edit) Tried that and it did not seem to effect anything.

Have you tried the obvious, like making sure the camera is turned on and has fresh batteries. Also, make sure the USB cable is plugged into a USB port. If that fails, try plugging the cable into a different USB port. Make sure the camera has a CF card installed. Try all of the obvious stuff first, then if that fails, try reinstalling all of the software. Let us know how it turns out.
