Hey,
I've been trying to get a hold of some spare batteries, and the 400D specs say that the battery included is a 720mAh NB2LH battery.
A battery I'm just looking at on Ebay is a 2000mAh NB2LH one, that says it's compatible with a 400D.
And I'm a bit scared, since I don't know what the numbers mean. Can anyone confirm that the 2000mAh battery isn't going to do anything nasty like fry my camera?

howdy,
for 400d batteries, go to ebay and type in Sterlingtek. These are the only 3rd party ones you can trust. I have 2 of them and they are fantastic. They're made in the same factory as Canon, have twice the power but none of the branding and cost me £22 for 2 of them and they've never let me down no matter where i've been out shooting and last and last and last.
The ones you mentioned would work fine. The MAH level of a battery is effectively how much power it can provide for how long. A 2000 mah battery will go for a lot longer than the standard crappy 700mah batt canon gives you. Although, having said that, I wouldnt trust this battery you're talking about unless it's Sterlingtek as i've heard some of the other cheapy Korean ones etc are prone to failure, or they will work but be depleted in 30 shots and then not able to recharge.
Go Sterlingtek and you will be happy. |

| Can these be charged on the standard canon battery charger that came with the camera? |

They certainly can. As previously mentioned they're made in the same factory so all the fittings etc are the same. I have heard some bad things about cheaper makes though, like they don't fit, or explode, or just plain don't work.

| Just ordered two of those from Ebay for 20 quid. I'm going on holiday soon to a place where electricity supply shouldn't be taken for granted, so I thought it'd be good to have spares... |

FYI, when I went to USA for a month in July I didn't take a transformer/converter with me for the different power volatges (not to mention plug shape)- I found you can charge your batteries by using the power cable from a printer as they use the same fitting for the canon charger pack thing (the 2 hole job). Also, this way the power is already converted into the correct voltage so it doesn't nuke your stuff.
This is worthy to bear in mind if you're strapped for somewhere to recharge and should work in a lot of countries as (from what I've seen) they all use the same power supply for their printers.
