I just moved to the Pacific Northwest form a very dry region (Los Angeles). I love to go out and about with my camera....but it is always raining. What should I use to help protect my equipment from water.....any suggestions?

Stay indoors.

Get an underwater housing.

Get a "rainjacket" for your camera.

Plastic bags and duct tape.

I knew somebody was gong to say plastic bag.

What is a rain jacket for the camera? Looking for inexpensive....but a bit more high tech than plastic bag.

I just read a useful tip the other day - disposable shower caps (sized large, if you can find them). Presumably you cut a hole for your lens, and maybe use a combo of more than one to cover your whole gear if it is large - I haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like it might be a cost-effective option.

An option from PhotoSharp
They even give you a 10 free trial :)

Clear plastic works just fine for keeping the water out, but the pac NW is also rather windy, making lightweight plastic a real PITA. I would go with something more heavy duty just because it wont blow around in your face if its windy out.

Ever seen those "quick covers"? I forget who makes them, maybe Reynolds, but they're essentially different sized "shower caps" for your leftovers. Something like that might work, especially with the different sizes allowing for a little more customization than a standard shower cap.

I was wondering about the same thing recently and created a thread

Got some good advice and insight into what was out there for gear and homemade solutions.

Oooh, Camas, Washington just gained another multi-ribbon winner. Sa-weeet! We'll be threatening Iceland soon enough! :)

Go to your local outdoor sporting goods store and look for a water resistant draw string stuff sacks. That's what i use. Obviously you take the camera out to shoot, but it's great for keeping the camera dry between shots.

This one is soft fleece on the inside:

While shooting it gets a little wet. No big deal as long as it's not raining too hard.

Oh, ME ME ME!! Only been hear a couple of months, do I still count?? :)

And I was actually just wondering about this same thing a few days ago when the rain really started kicking in. alanfreed had posted in another thread about his KameraKondom that I think is a plastic golf club cover. I'm gonna have to come up with something because everyone keeps "warning" me about the rain. Can't imagine not shooting outside all winter long.

What the hell people?!? Why aren't you all knocking at my door for tea and crumpets?

BTW, I am typing this while sitting in Longview at this very moment. We have a sattelite office up here and I come once a week for two months at a time.

I will come a knocking.

Seriously....I need friends. Photography friends are even better. Jenesis, Hoser, and myself are going to Dr. Achooooooooo's for tea and crumpet's. And I have no idea where Longview is?

Ok, the first thing we can discuss is giving you a decent username. How am I supposed to say that? "NJ's abs"? You a weightlifter? ;)

I'm there! Be careful what you ask for Doc. :)

I'm a little further north on the 5 from you guys (about 45 min) where the Columbia starts to make it's turn towards the coast.
