Any interest in an African Safari photo opportunity in the heart of Sonoma County the weekend of October 6th or 13th?
They have tours at 9am and 4pm (to best capture the light) so there may be ample opportunity to photograph some beautiful animals not cooped up in cages. Tours last 2 1/2 to 3 hours so the late afternoon tour may afford the best lighting.
The cost is $62 per person and I have included the link below for more information.
Unfortunately...it's too late to book a private photo tour as it requires two weeks notice and may be cost prohibitive for some members if we don't get 10 people. ($720 for up to 10 people)
For those that may be traveling from out of town for the weekend - The Sonoma and Napa Valley Wineries should be donning their fall colors that time of year.
And..if you are adventurous..they have a bed and breakfast on site :) either is Safari tents or cottages.

Here is the link to Safari West.

Ooh, I really want to do this, but can't make it that weekend. If we did it the following weekend, I could be there, but I know you're about to start your new job, Eve, so that might be a conflict for you.

Eve, what a great idea. I do have that weekend free, so let's see what develops. I did the Safari a few years ago and was very pleased with the way they handled things. It's great shooting with many animals very much as if they were in the wild. If the late tour is the choice, I'd suggest a Saturday as getting back into town very likely would be difficult on Sunday evening.

Philip - We could do it next weekend if that works better for you. I start working nights on the weekends after the 19th so the next two weekends are my only free weekends. I could do the morning tour any weekend.

Hi Alice - Is next weekend ok for you? Good suggestion for Saturday...works for me. I suggested the evening tour as it might provide better lighting opportunities but the morning tour would work for me any weekend in the future.

Might also be nice to meet for breakfast if we do the morning tour...or dinner after the evening tour. Let me know what you think.

Saturday, October 6 would work for either morning or afternoon; Sunday doesn't. Actually, morning would probably be good because the equinox is upon us and the days are getting shorter... Also, Oct 20, (Sat) works.

I'll be out of town on Oct. 6, but please go ahead and go whenever it works for you guys. I know that I'll make it up there soon. You might want to PM a couple of the northern CA people to see if they're interested as well.

I would love to go but not sure if I could get a weekend off :( If you guys pick out a date I will try to get it off.

I went back to your Point Reyes thread and sent PM's to everyone. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Checked weather.com forecast for Saturday the 6th. It's expected to be sunny...77 degrees and rated a 10 for leisure travel. For the 13th the record average is 79...record low 49...and record high 98. I will post forecast for the 13th when it comes up.

I Never visited there. It's a good chance for me. I think I can make it either weekend. I have only 70-200mm lens, probably not enough. I will buy a 800mm lens tomorrow.

Philip - I just found out today that I will have to work the weekend of the 19th & 20th. The weekend of the 13th is out for Alice...So it looks like it will need to be this Saturday.

Looks like this Saturday morning is it...I hope that's enough time for you to request the morning off.

Both sounds good to me :) - Since everyone so far is coming from the San Francisco Area - Would you like to meet in Petaluma for breakfast? Then Caravan up to the Park? It should take approx 45 minutes to arrive there from Petaluma so we should plan on being done with breakfast around 8ish.

Thanks for pulling this together, Eve. It was easy to make a reservation which does have to be made by telephone with a CC.

Perhaps more will join us on this excursion. Should be fun and a super photographic opportunity.

Let's check a little later on breakfast, etc. before the event.

Alice...William called me this morning and said a Challenge came up last night for Fauna. Do we want to change this to the 6th??? so we can possibly get some entries for the challenge??? Fauna Challenge ends 10-9. If you can't...no worries. I may do it both days.
