On iStockphoto, there are a number of image size options. I've looked at a few examples, and XLarge seems to be about 4300x2900 pixels which is 12.5 megapixels.

Since iStockphoto doesn't allow upsizing, does this mean that only 12mp cameras and above can be used to produce the largest photos? Or do people just upsize anyway to make the larger sizes available?

I'm guessing that *lots* of folks do the extremely minor upsizing necessary to meet that requirement.

I'd be inclined to say that most do not upsize but use 12mp cams. iStock is pretty stringent on quality control. By the way, XL sales are a rarity, by and large from what I can determine.

also, is that a 12MP tiff? that's a much smaller RAW.

I'm getting '12mp' by simply multiplying width by height. I always assumed that regardless of whether the file was JPG, TIF, or RAW that uncropped width x height would give you the number of pixels on the sensor.
