Hi All

I'm looking for some advice or recommendations on the best setup for my photography project.

Firstly, I'm looking to shoot photos of clothing on mannequins for use in magazines and on the internet. Also, I need close shots and macros of various products using maybe a light tent.

Clothing comes in a variety of colours from black and white to bright red. It is important silver button details get replicated well in the shot.

The final photos will need to have the background removed in photoshop leaving only the product so I need quite a sharp edge.

The camera I am looking at is a Nikon D80 with Nikon AF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IF ED DX.

Would this camera and lens be suitable for my project.

I'm not really sure what lighting, light tent or tripod to purchase.

Also would I need to purchase anything else to assist me such as a coloured background to help photoshop cropping.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

regards,

bub

Your best bet is to hire someone that knows what they're doing.

Thanks for that.

I do hire someone at the moment. It costs us £250 a morning for a shoot. We need three shoots a week.

Our website is very busy and for our business to survive we need new products online immediatley.

Rather than pay someone I decided to buy equipment and take a photography course.

I've read lots of magazine and looked through reviews online but really just wanted the valued opinion of end users.

The D80 and the kit lens will be an excellent tool for your class.

Personally, I'd choose Canon, but the choice is mostly irrelevant despite the frequently contentious debates on the subject.

I think that you'll discover the answer to why you're being charged £250 for a morning of photography.

You might also learn some things about what additional equipment you'll need as well.

I would say that the Nikon D80 is a very good choice! :D

On the other hand, i've heard several times that D70 is better at the colors, but i'm not sure

Thanks,

It has been a toss up betweent the Canon and Nikon. They both look very good cameras and head to head in reviews they seem similar.

Personally the D80 felt more comfortable in my hand. My friend has one and I like the results very much. I think this will be my choice.

Off to a couple of local stores tomorrow to look at lighting.

So far I'll looking to buy 2 heads, 2 stands and 2 soft boxes. Any advice on manufacturers to look out for?
