Hi everyone. My grandmother and I are driving to Ga. and to get back home i'm going to have to take a plane.I havent been on a plane since i was younger. so i'm not really sure of the requirements.
Does anyone know of a proper backpack that i can carry both my camera and laptop (17" screen),in so that i can take it on the plane with me. And if there is anything i should now about taking my camera to an airport. like the do's and don'ts. My idea of a good time isn't beening held for questioning. lol.
Thanks a lot.
Oh i dont know if this information is needed but i have a rebel xt. 2 lens. and a tripod. Thanks a lot again

Good morning Shanté - Your best bet would be to go to the web site for the airline involved and check what sizes they allow for carry-on luggage. I travel a fair bit and have found that the sizes can vary dramatically from one airline to the next.

Hope this helps a bit.

I would put the tripod in checked luggage.

Your camera and all the accessories (CF cards, and so forth) will be fine going through the scanner thingy.

As Strikeslip suggested, it's best to put the tripod in your suitcase if possible.

When you get to the security gates at the airport, they'll make you take your computer out of its bag. You might also have to take off your shoes. It can be a long wait to get through security, but they won't question you at all as long as you try to follow the rules for liquids and such.

As previously suggested, look at the website for your airline and also the website for the specific airport you'll be leaving from. You'll find lots of information on those two sites.

Have fun!

if worth realizing that the regulations changed again a few weeks ago and now they may require individual scanning of cameras, out of bags, similar to the way laptops are handled.

The TSA seems a bit vague on the roll-out of this, but it applies to all 'large electronic devices' Some people traveling with SLRs have been asked to comply, others haven't. I suspect if your camera is hewn from a single block of unobtanium, you'll be more likely to be asked than for a rebel though.

More on their web site.

Laptops, Full-size Video Game Consoles and Other Large Electronics
Photo of a video game console

Effective August 4, 2007, laptop computers, full-size video game consoles (for example Playstation®, X-box®, or Nintendo®), full-size DVD players, and video cameras that use video cassettes must be removed from their carrying cases and submitted separately for x-ray screening. Laptop computers and video cameras that use cassettes have long been subject to this policy.
What Needs to be Screened Separately

* Laptops
* Full-size video game consoles
* Full-size DVD players
* Video cameras that use video cassettes
* CPAP breathing machines

Small and portable electronic items do not need to be removed from their carrying cases.
