Al Gore said on Oprah that most of Florida, some of California and much of China will be under water by 2015. Talk about hanging your ass out on a limb. If in 8 years they are not under water he looks like a fool.

I had better learn to swim!!

Its a meaningless prediction anyway - so he can't go wrong.

It happens, he's the prophet. It doesn't happen 'thank god I made all that noise about it 8 years ago, x/y/z changes saved Florida/ CA etc'

You have 8 years to get your swim on. After that you had better get to higher ground.

I wonder what scientific proof he based that on. I don't know many scientists that would back an 8 year prediction.

Not that it matters because the world dies in 2012.

So that water may extinguish some of the hellfires burning right about that time,

When the guy who invented the internet says it, you better believe it will happen.

I was about to say that too. Supposedly we are dead 2012, so 2015 is a safe bet on the world being flooded. Once the magnetic field of the earth reverses our direction and we are thrown into space, flooding will be the least of our problem.

Bottom line, you only have 6-8 years left. So start smoking, drinking, and eating all the red meat you want.

This coming from a guy who claimed to be the father of the Internet...

Edit: Late, but I got a link. =)

I quit drinking red meat when I couldn't get rid of the blood stains down the sides of my mouth. I still smoke it though.

edit: I go no link.

Do you know that magnetic field of earth ACTUALLY changes the direction. There are evidence of it doing it twice.

Does that mean that the 9 Billion invested in the Olympics is wasted?

Yep! Guess it does, so make the most of 2008 Olympics.

I thought it was more like 19 times....

Anyway, the earth will be hit with a direct blast of a solar flare in the fall of 2012 and the world 'as we know it' will end. 3/4 of the worlds' population will die. Solar activity runs in cycles, the next active cycle is 2012.

Solar flares anywhere near us disrupt satelites and radio. Most miss us - the sun is a ball and spits them out in all directions, so the odds of us being hit is small. We'd get 10 minutes notice, if that, should the sun shoot one our way. The earth was hit slightly by a solar flare in the 1850s. It overloaded the electrical circuits of teh telegraph lines, blowing the lines off the poles and starting prairie fires. One theory speculates a direct hit on a contintent could scorch everything above ground to a crisp.

So should we be hit, or hit a couple of times and lose satellited, power to the eastern seabord and perhaps part of europe, computers blow up from overloads, car, planes and boats' electrical systems in the affected areas are also overloaded and destroyed. The world 'as we know it' would indeed be in for a BIG change. Remove ALL things electrical from chicago to NYC in a large circle...and it doens't turn back on...it can be rebuilt but how long will that take? You wake up to find no power, no car, no radio...how long do you sit and wait for it to come back on? After a week what do you eat? After two weeks? No power...no refrigeration, no transportaion, no communications...welcome to AD1400 - unless you can walk there you can't go. Anyone beyond shouting distance is out of your communication range.

Medicine...gone. No pills, no refrigeration, no A/C. LOTS of people die.
No drugs....so drug addicts will do what?
Guns still work...them that have them will what? Be nice or point them at who has what they want?

Worldwide chaos would ensue - sorry, but elimiate 50% of the US and china as no one to sell to. Wipe out the midwest and a lot of people worldwide go hungry. Hit the middle east and oil stops flowing for a year maybe...that'll kill the economy everywhere, stop you from going to work if you drive a car, no trucks to bring food to your local stores...the world as we know it ends.

70% of the world is covered by water.
Ice floats.
The only 'extra' water to raise the oceans has to come from ice on land.
How much ice is on land?
I doubt enough to flood Florida...if the water goes up 3 feet i'd be surprised.

So mark it on your calendars, 2012 the earth changes directions and all hell breaks loose. Time to buy gold and move to the mountains. And for all of you who think that we will make it past 2012, Al says 2015 you will need to evolve back into a fish or you are done for.

But think of the amazing auroras that solar flare would produce :)

I heard something like every 25,000 years or so... Denver used to be on the equator ect... changes the spin of the earth, and the axis of which it sits.

All I know is that I am going to find some goo to be trapped in, so that in a million or so years they can discover my remains well preserved and put my bald head in a museum with the caption "privative man".

According to discovery channel, as I remember the figure was 50,000 years or so. (I might be wrong though). One thing, when I first came to know to it, I literally jumped out of my place. Discovery channel showed a computer simulation of it happening (in terms of magnetic field), it was wonderful.
(I believe that the last ice age ended roughly 10000 years ago, and it started around 70,000 years ago. And around start of last ice age, Neanderthals went extinct, and the modern humans appear. So this means when we started to appear the magnetic field was changing).

A) Are you SURE you heard him right? Gore is not an idiot. The only way that much flooding occurs in 8 years is the Greenland ice shelf and the Antarctic ice shelf slide into the ocean. Could happen, but nobody knows if/when. I doubt Gore is stupid enough to say it's going to happen in the next 8 years. You sure he didn't say 2050?

B) Prof_fate is correct that increasing the ocean depth substantially requires ice from land to runoff into the ocean. However, he is incorrect to say there isn't enough ice. The Greenland shelf alone has enough ice to raise sea level 23 feet (see Wiki article)

C) If Gore said something so charged, why isn't any news covering it? I can't find a single google article about it. I doubt he said it.

Ahhh yes....the bugout bag! I have myself a bugout BOX now...on wheels. Little 4x10 Teardrop camper I built...stocked and ready to go...battery, solar, plugin powererd. But then I don't live that far out of the mountains...and practice as much as I can. :)

Let the water come! could use some up here at 5000+ feet and 100 degrees.
