Yeah, he actually liked it. :)
I'm surprised, beacuse judging by Phil's studio tests, I would have said that the image quality didn't add up much compared to it's competitors. They are very noisey just like the F700 and S5000 (which I own myself).
I was convinced he was going to rate it 'above average', but it seems he was actually quite impressed with it.
Bah, maybe I'm just jealous cos he only rated the S5000 'average'. :)

Yeh, although he didn't give it a "highly recommended"; you could consider this "damning by faint praise", but I don't; Phil makes the point that the S7000 delivers alot of value for the money, and his test results certainly bear out that opinion.

| Looks good in 6mp mode but not so hot at 12mp. |

I've never been a big fan of images 'interpolated upwards' either.
I don't know why Fuji just don't ditch the SCCD and stick with conventional sensors like everyone else. |

I'd be happy if they ditched the marketing hype.
Interestingly, the S7000 seems to equal the Sony 828 in resolution, using 6Mpx as opposed to 8. This tells us that they are in fact getting extra resolution out of the offset array, and reaffirms what was found with the the 3Mpx SCCD cameras; they could achieve resolution comparable to 4+Mpx.
What Fuji SHOULD do is change the interpolation algorithm to yield an 8Mpx file, which would save space and still take full advantage of the resolution of the sensor.

Sounds like a great idea!
The S5000 is supposed to yield 'convincing' 6MP resolution, but in actual fact it produces the best output when reduced to about 4MP.
Maybe Fuji should stop trying to kid themselves that they've got sensors which can double the resolution of their images, and market their cameras as 4 or 8MP instead. :) |
