My son lost his saved game that he's worked on for months. He and a friend accidently hit a comination of buttons and now the saved game no longer appears.

He's pretty upset. I'm trying to get him to realize that it's only a game, but I would be upset too.

Any one out there know how to recover a deleted game from a PS 2 memory card?

I'd be a real hero if I could get this back.

Thanks in advance.

Directly probly not. There is a way to (im in the emulation community we use this method to dump the bios). Use a bootloader disk to bootload a custom CD. To cause the Playstation to crash and let us load our own software then use the network adapter to transfer files via ftp to a pc.

However i dont know of any undelete tools... so it kinda doesnt help. I used to have an aftermarket card that came with compression and card utilitis but i dont think there was an undelete on it.

BTW i edited because i dont need to know the game. If were just undeleting. But as i said even with access to the memory card through custom software i dont know how.

For PS1 they used to make what was called a dex drive you plugged the memory card into it and hooked it to a pc. I dont know if one was ever made for PS2. Id check into it and see if it has an undelete tool.

Just asked my gaming family here and all agree that the saved game is probably gone for good. There is no undelete available in PS2. Sorry :(

Is his Playstation II networked (i.e, connected for online play)? He may be able to download a saved game from the internet. Check out www.gamefaqs.com or something similar.

... hm, I'm usually pretty good with this stuff, but I'm afraid there's no "undo" button for PS2. I don't know if you can download a saved game with a network connection, as I can't do the whole online play thing. It seems like it's worth a try though, y'know?

thanks everyone.

Poor kid is devestated right now. He's really worked hard on this and was pretty proud of his progress.

We limit his playing time, so he's done a lot for time allowed.

Sounds like a good life lesson opportunity!

Wish me luck!

Gamefaqs has a version with 93% completed. That's probably further than your son got. But like I said, you'd need online PS2 capability to retrieve it.

I feel for your son. On one hand, if he plays it again he'll probably go a lot faster, as he'll be covering familiar territory. On the other, some games can involve 50-100 hours of gameplay. That's a lot to make up.

Nothing you can do to restore the game save. A couple years ago Sony sent out demo for a game called "Viewtiful Joe 2" and it cause the erasure of all data on the memory card. The only thing that Sony could do was to give away a free game to those that were affected.

Maybe a friend has the same game and has a saved game that can be copied over to your sons' card if you don't have Sony network.

Thanks! I copied his best friends saved version. They were pretty close in progress, so all is good.

I really appreciate the reponses! :-)
