Does it have to be black and white? People, not all conversions look good. I can't believe how many gray pictures I've looked at. Color is nice on the street too!!!!

It's always helpful to look at what a photo is rather than what you want it to be :)

The "tradition" of street photography is gritty and (usually) contrasty B/W images. It's no surprise such a significant number of shooters choose to honor that tradition. Especially since many people enjoy doing B/W and feel it rarely has a chance to shine in DPC challenges. This particular challenge is tailor-made for B/W. My suggestion is that you sit back and enjoy :-) There are a whole bunch of exceptional images entered.

| I agree that color is good and some conversions do not work, However, without seeing the photo in both color or b&w it would be hard to state the conversion doesn't work for that photo. Somtimes colors in the backgrond can draw attention away from the main subject, so a b&w conversion of that photo can bring the focus back to the main subject. Not to mention traditional street photogaphy is known for b&w, as rswank stated earlier. |

I don't have a wiener in this fire, but totally agree with Bear. It's tradition.
There are some bad conversions. Ofcourse there were a few bad film choices made by film photogs too. Oh well, can't learn from mistakes not made and definitely can't learn if you choose to ignore tradition.
