I recently purchased a wacom intuos 3 tablet. by default, in photoshop the two touchstrips zoom in and out when you run your finger across them. I would like very much for at least one touchstrip to do something useful, like change the opacity or flow of brushes.

the strips can be bound to any keystroke, but there is no keystroke control for increasing/decreasing flow or opacity. the number keys on the keyboard can be used to set these values to predetermined amounts, but not to incrementally increase or decrease them (like for example the bracket keys do for brush size).

for another $100, i can buy the wacom airbrush pen which has a flow control wheel on it in place of the 2-button rocker switch, but this seems like a silly thing to do. if this tool can control the flow incrementally, why can't the touchstrips be made to access the same commands?

does anyone know how to solve this problem? it might involve some tweaking of photoshop to create a keystroke that incrementally increases the flow or opacity. i don't know how to do this. i have googled up a lot of posts where other people want to do the same thing, so if anyone can help it would be really appreciated.

I found one mention on the Wacom site...

"The left Touch Strip controls the brush size. I hold down the Shift Express Key with my middle finger and tap the top or bottom of the Touch Strip with my index finger to increase (top of Touch Strip) or decrease (bottom of Touch Strip) the hardness of the brush's edge in 25% increments."

yeah, changing brush size or hardness is pretty easy, since photoshop already has keystrokes that control the brush size/hardness in increments. you just bind the brackets to the top and bottom of the touchstrip.

what i am trying to accomplish is controlling the opacity or flow via the touchstrip. this probably requires some reconfiguring of the keyboard controls in photoshop and then binding those new controls to the touchstrip. anybody a wizard at this with any pointers?

it has been a very long time since I used a wacom tablet so forgive me if I'm off key here...but isn't the opacity and/or flow controled by pressure you put down on the pen? I thought most brushes in PS have an options setting that allows you to pick how the opacity is controlled and pressure is one of them.

All the touchstrips and buttons are customizable.

the opacity and flow (and other variables) can be controlled by pen pressure, but not necessarily. let's say i want to control flow with the pen pressure, but not the opacity or brush size. i want those to be easily accessible, but not so dynamically varied as pen pressure gives. or at least not all controlled by the pen pressure at once.

the tablet has these great interface devices in the touchstrips but it is hard to find a way to make them control such obvious useful functions. again, brush size is simple to attach to the strip, but what about opacity?
