Anyone dares make this a political or right/wrong thread, I'm gonna' whap you.
;)

I never though I would see the day when I would go spend the day at a Gay Pride Festival, but in all honesty, was a day that anyone with a camera would enjoy. The crowd was an eye-opener for sure, with colors, clothing, costumes, and about everything imaginable in between. People smiling, no one camera shy, plenty of events and stage performances, and found myself reluctant to leave before it was over (had grass to cut at home - lol)

Anyway, I went there in somewhat photo journalistic mode, trying to capture the day and take someone with me, through my viewfinder, as I saw it. Kick back, smile, enjoy, giggle, be amused, and try and keep an open mind that a person's sexual preference does not make them less of a person:

Wow. Looks like a very fun event. You have captured the festival spirit I think.

Pride is one of my favourite events in my town as well. Looks like quite the fun crowd at yours! Great photos. :)

I think the chick in the blue shirt isn't wearing a bra.

I didn't go to the Festival but I went to the Parade beforehand. My gallery is here: //rkligman.smugmug.com/gallery/3187372

I'm not of that persuasion but I have to say it was a really great time. Everybody and everything felt so alive and happy. It was contagious.

The first 90 or so pics are my photos with the intent of being up close and personal. The rest of the pages are my wifes and they are more photo journal style.

On the last page is a special photo that was just a little too much to put up front so be warned.

Ok, in that case the guy in the pink wig is wearing a bra.

ED:
Hey Rick I forgot to ask did you have protestors down on the end of the street you was on? I didn't see any in your pics and that is where they usually hang out.

You're a brave soul to go in to festival for your first time... Festival can be a little more intimate and intimidating. Fun but if you haven't been in there things are quite interesting at first. The wife and I went in a few years back and ran across some strange activities.

I really wanted to go to the Parade, but had too many appointments here at the shop. One day out of two was better than none.

that looks fun! I wonder when there is something like that around these parts (LA). I know there has to be one but when? :)

I'd love to shoot a parade! I'm a chicken when it comes to shooting random people but its kind of a given in that situation, it would be a great starter project, lol.

Looks like a blast! :D
I didn't get to go to our parade, but I do have a few shots of our "drag ball" softball game in my portfolio. This is the third time I've been to it, and it just gets more fun every year.

The Los Angeles parade (West Hollywood, actually) is in early June. Long Beach is in mid May.

I guess not everyone wanted to go to the parade:

That's why I got a call from the DA. They wanted to purchase my pictures to support the city's case. Finally, some recognition. :)
