My girlfriend is looking for a point and shoot camera to take with her on a few upcoming vacations. Here are things she would like to have:

-easy to operate
-quick start up
-quick time between shots
-6+ megapixels
-3x zoom or more
-SD card compatible
-decent battery life
-good quality photos in most conditions
-under $250

I had noticed that fujifilm A900, but can find no reviews on it at all. Does anyone else have any recommendations.

One Camera I used that was simple (Mind you I use a Canon Powershot A630 as a daily and it breaks down into full manual.)

I used a borrowed Pentax Optio M10 for 2 months, its shirt pocket slim it turns on fast regular recycle time is fast but using flash slows it down expected i figure not sure if its bad.

You can get an M10 new for dirt cheap the M20, M30 and btw just came out M40 replacements are available. (The new M40 is 199.99)

As far as the M10 goes:
Easy with no manual mode, bunches of auto modes including self portrait.
6 Megapixel, 3x Zoom, Uses SD cards and 2 AA's. Small ass hel with a slightly bulged grip.

Photos are good, very low noise but the M10 has an iso 400 max. It does blow highlights a bit.... not so happy about that other then that it was great and id love to have one... for 20 dollars.

Good were all in agreement Pentax lmao. Honestly Id steer ya towards a canon but Pentax makes the simple lovable point and shoot. But if you need something for around and even in and under the pool. The W30 might be the way to go?

well the w30 doesn't add allot and costs more than the w20. I would agree that a Canon s3 would be a great camera as well.

Take a look at any of the A or SD series Canons. The 6-7 MP models should be in that price range and they have all the features you listed.

SD series yes and some A series, but id stick with the SD series if your going canon. I have an A630 the A610/620/630/640 while they have an auto mode its easy to bump into somethign else and not know whats going on. They are heavy also, but the flip around screen is awesome. SOme of the A5xx and the A7xx IS's are cool and provide medium to overkill functionality.

Panasonic Lumix TZ-3 - starts at a wide 28mm and telephoto to 280mm, Leica lens. Good vacation/travel ultra compact, but ISO above 200 has strong NR.

if she isn't picky about image quality, look at the Sony T series. slim and sexy - great for the ladies.

Thanks for all the advice. We are going to go take a look at the Canon SD1000 today. We can get it on sale for $269.00 and most of the reviews we read seem pretty positive.

With those requirements, the Fuji F40fd seems like a no brainer.

The F40fd is the first SD capable member of the F20/F30 line. It's an upgrade to the F20. Fuji's blow away the competition regarding hi ISO (low light shooting without flash).

It's only $193 or so online.

It would be my first choice for a bar hopping camera. I love shooting indoors and i mean flash in a bar? It doesnt look like a bar. I have no experience with the particular fuji, but ive always loved the F10/F30 cameras just in the specs. But id have to say is it really a great vacation camera?
