Maybe the voting could have a series of radio buttons instead of just one series.

i.e. have 1-10 ratings for:

- overall

- artistic

- technical

- theme (i.e. fulfills the challenge)

The user would select 1-10 for each category then the computer would do the math to come out with the final score out of 10. In this case the score would be (overall + artistic + technical + theme) divided by 4.

Seeing what votes you get this way might help in knowing what you have to concentrate more on to make better photos.

I like that idea!

I'm not sure about this concept but it would be nice to have some sort of voting guidelines that are a little more defined than 1=very bad and 10=very good.

My quick math ...

107 images x 4 ratings + comments = my own personal hell.

Drew,

Don't forget to display the voter bell curve patterns :P

The thing is, for those who want to, they can already do that for themselves and then enter the averaged vote for each picture. I'm not for anything else that increases the voting time for everyone.

Ya, but it's much easier to click visually see the scale and click 4 buttons than it is for me to have a piece of paper that I have to look at, write down my votes, then do the math for each picture.

I think that everything is fine as is. I think if people want to do that in comments, that's fine, but that would just make things so complicated. Especially if this site continues to grow.

why not post a little guide as to what to look for and consider in photographs? try to give some guidance as to what each number should be a reflection of. have it on the front page of the site.

there are talented people here who could write such a thing im sure : )
