Does anyone know if it actually makes a difference if you remove the battery and keep it in the plastic terminal that it came in when you're not using the camera? Or does that only matter if you don't shoot for a month or some long period of time?
Is the life of the battery shortened if it is just left inside the camera for days at a time without using it?

thanks for any help =)

I don't believe it makes a whole lot of difference. When in the camera, it keeps track of a couple things (or maybe it doesn't since I don't think the D40 has an LCD display), but the Nikon battery life is really, really good regardless.

I leave the battery in my D100, which I rarely use, and the battery doesn't seem to drain for weeks or months that it's not being used.
