Hi Guys,

Im having problems using my Canon 20-35mm ef lens on my Canon 5d.I take a few pics and the camera locks up,not allowing further pics to be taken. The fault code is Err 01, which is to do with the contacts.I have cleaned them, but its no better-Any ideas Please.

THANKS

Only with that particular lens? or all lenses?

No problems with other lenses? If this is the case, then the problem is probably with the lens. Try to test that lens on another camera body, and see if it throws the same error.

Sounds like, you have to clean the contacts on the lens

The manual says:
Err 01: Communications between the camera and lens is faulty. Clean the lens contacts

Yes its only the one lens. As stated I have cleaned the lens and body contacts.

Good. Next step is to test that lens on another body. It's possible that there is a contact problem on the lens that can't be solved by cleaning. It's also possible that this particular combination of lens and body is problematic (tolerance stack up issue?).

Sure looks like a lens issue. Well, that's a bugger, but it is better than a body issue, and if Canon can reproduce it I'm pretty sure they can fix it... for a price.

where in the country are you? instead of using a cnaon repair center I have used the services of a guy in essex (not far from me) who specilalise in canon repairs, lens, bodies etc, I believe he used to work for canon but is retured now and just does it as a sideline business/hobby. He works out a lot cheaper than actually using canon.
